Q: how many of you are taking his last name? Are you excited to? Was that a big decision or a no brainier? If you're not, how come? Are yo going to hyphenate or not at all?
A: I'm taking his last name and I'm pretty excited. My current last name is pretty boring/standard and my first and middle name (my username!) is more exotic, so I'm excited to be getting a nicer last name! Lol. So for me it was always a no brainier, I figured if I got married I would change my last name.

haha same! I've grown attached to my maiden name lol I'm graduating 3 weeks before the wedding (if my dissertation stays on schedule ) so it's also a matter of switching my degrees and what name I want for licensing purposes...ugh.
Someone gave me a great idea that I think I'm going to do. I'm going to take his last name, but also legally change my middle name to my maiden name and drop my current middle name. That way, I still legally have my maiden name on my degress/licenses, but I'll have the same last name as my FH and future kids.

Legally, I'm hyphenating, which is normally something I'm not a fan of, but my first name with FH's last name sounds terrible. I also love my last name and my father is an only child with 2 daughters. So while my future kids won't carry on my family's name, I'll at least be able to hold onto it for a little longer. Socially, I'll have no issue being called Mrs._____ and I certainly wouldn't correct anyone if they referred to me by either name alone.

I am taking his last name but I have mixed emotions about it. My last name is one of the last things I have of my father and I really don't qanna give it up. But its important to fh and I get to move up from R to H

No brainer. I am not a fan of the new last name but we are pretty traditional, so it was never a question in my mind.

THIS!
Honestly, I think it's an old, outdated trend and completely unnecessary. I have my own accomplishments with my own name (college degree, etc.) and I don't feel like they should be erased just because I'll be married.
I know it's super important to my FH but we're taking our honeymoon almost two months later and he's really paranoid about travel stuff so he said we should wait for me to change it until after our honeymoon. I might just 'forget' lol.

This! lol
My maiden last name has 9 letters in it and the pronunciation is always slaughtered! I am very happy and proud to take his, even better that it has only 5 letters!
