Q: how many of you are taking his last name? Are you excited to? Was that a big decision or a no brainier? If you're not, how come? Are yo going to hyphenate or not at all?
A: I'm taking his last name and I'm pretty excited. My current last name is pretty boring/standard and my first and middle name (my username!) is more exotic, so I'm excited to be getting a nicer last name! Lol. So for me it was always a no brainier, I figured if I got married I would change my last name.

I'll be taking his last name legally but for work purposes, I'll be hyphenating. I'm Korean and he's Italian so I want people that I deal with professionally to know that I'm Korean.

Someone gave me a great idea that I think I'm going to do. I'm going to take his last name, but also legally change my middle name to my maiden name and drop my current middle name. That way, I still legally have my maiden name on my degress/licenses, but I'll have the same last name as my FH and future kids.
I'm in the same boat! I will be graduating 5 months before my wedding (if I'm on schedule with my dissertation too). I'm definitely going take my FH last name. So I'm going to have to change my degrees. My middle name is my grandmother's so I would feel terrible changing it!

I'm taking his last name and never did I think that I would struggle with the idea of that, but I kind of am. My last name is a part of who I am and I'm going to miss it!

Legally, I won't be taking his name. I like my last name and I don't really see the point in changing it. I reserve the right to change my mind at any time, but I can't see ever wanting to change it. Plus, I grew up with a mom whose last name was different from mine and it made zero difference in my life.
Socially, people can call me whatever they prefer. I won't correct people one way or the other.

I like my last name, because its MY last name that I was born with. Legally I want to stay unchanged and socially people can call me Mrs ___.
FH isn't very happy about this. But he grew up with a mother who was untraditional and hyphened her name so he's a bit more understanding.
I'll be taking his last name. I can't wait to do that actually. I HATE my last name with a passion. It tortured me throughout my school years. It's Grossman. Do you know what its like going through life being a fat girl with the last name grossman? It was awful... I've waited (at this point) 24 years to change it.
I am however... excited because I don't have to change any of my e-mail addresses because my initials will be staying the same.
