Wasn't going to post today at all b/c I took yesterday off when my mom came down to DC and now I am absolutely SWAMPED at work but I just needed to vent. Mom and I had a lovely weekend. It was great spending time together just the two of us. And the weather couldn't have been better on my day off yesterday!

EXCEPT...when I went for my final fitting, the dress was TOO TIGHT! I couldn't really breathe. After I had it on for a while, I felt a little better. The seamstress asked if I wanted to let it out but I just didn't know what to do. I felt like maybe I had just gained some weight that I should lose again and it would be ok. I don't want to be uncomfortable at my wedding but I also want the dress to look nice and I don't want to feel like a fat slob like I did when it was too tight.

THEN DF went to go pick up our rings and the store had MISENGRAVED mine. I have a tiny, thin, size 4-3/4 band and for some reason they decided to use a HUGE block letter font! Which, of course, didn't fit so now the words run off the band. They sent it back and tried again but it didn't look any better. Now they are sending it to their 'home office' for one more try. I am so upset! Is the constant re-engraving going to damage my ring? Are they even going to get it right?? What my ring says is half a phrase...the other half is on DF's ring (which was ALSO done in those nasty block letters instead of a nice script!!) so if they can't do it, we'll have to think of a new thing for BOTH rings. ARGH!!

And now the latest trauma...I called the hair salon where I am having my trials done on Sunday (THIS Sunday, which I booked MONTHS ago and reconfirmed just last month last time I was in NY) and found out that not only do they NOT have the makeup artist in that day (W T F !!! ) but also the hairstylist I was supposed to have, the one I've already met with twice and showed the pix of my hair trial here in DC, and who I REALLY liked, is in the hospital!! They don't know when she'll be back and are trying to find someone else who can do my trial and, I guess, then would have to do my hair for the wedding. I'm so worried about the stylist in the hospital and so upset about the whole thing. I live 300 miles away...it's not like I can just pop in someday and have them do a trial!!!

Thanks for letting me vent.

Also here are some from my fitting (can you tell how much trouble I am having breathing?! ) I thought it might be helpful to see what the dress looked like...

Unfortunately, I didn't think to take any at the fitting with the veil underneath, but here is one from an earlier fitting that gives sort-of an idea of what it might look like...(just ignore my closed eyes and picture more hair on top...)

Hey Alison, Thanks for sharing the pictures!! I think you look gorgeous, i am sitting here smiling for you. I know things have been pretty hard for you the past couple of weeks, but i got to tell you, you are going to look amazing!!!!!!!!!!!

i am glad the woman did a good job with your hair. I think after she calms down, she will be fine. Your hair looks fabulous by the way! i love it all up like that. I also wanted to tell you that i love the waterfall veil look on you. And folks will get to see you pretty hair after you take the veil off at the reception.
I would go with the veil on top over the hair. but they both look good.

i would also talk with the folks at cactus again and tell them about the woman storming off on you. and explain that you really liked the work she did on your hair. but you are also really concerned because of her behavior and the fact that it didn't seem like she liked you (play up the sympathy part!). and that you hope that they can make sure that she is there to do your hair the day of because she was really very good. or something like that. this might help you feel better too.

good luck with your rings. and i think that the dress is going to work itself out. It will all be terrific for your big day. Oh my gosh, it is close now! take care,

i am SO not a fan of the veil underneath.

I think since you have one tier you can see your hair through the veil fine, but it has to be what YOU like, not us!

Thanks, Jo...I REALLY appreciate all the support...and I actually sent the pics to your regular e-mail addy, too, in case you weren't on LIW.

I forgot to mention that the owner did come talk to us and told us that he'd speak with the stylist, so that made me feel a little better. And my mom is going to go back next week to talk to him again, JUST to make 110% sure...

Meanwhile, I REALLY appreciate all the opinions (not to mention the lovely compliments!) from everybody!! Please keep 'em coming. I really like BOTH looks and think I would be happy either way. I just can't seem to decide which I like best!!!

I am not a veil fan at all...so I would opt for it underneath...but that MO

as for the dress...I gained 5 pounds after my final fitting!! and it was hard to sit and eat (so I ate standing)...but other then that....I barely noticed...lol

Personally, I always prefer the waterfall style to the back of the head on the veil. This is such a matter of personal taste though - there isn't a right or wrong. I just find something dreamy/elegant about the veil on top of the head, and can't stop think thinking that the veil looks like its coming out of your head when its undernearth. hehe. Yes, I'm nuts. And in terms of showing off your hair, I'd take the veil off for the reception -- that way you don't get tugged when everyone hugs you.

Either way, you are going to look gorgeous!!!

Your hair looks great! I hope the owner made it clear to the stylist that you are the BRIDE and that she should be kissing up to you! Clearly, this woman has some issues....

I vote for the veil on top as I have never been a fan of the veil underneath the hair. But it is your day so go with whatever you like best!

And by the way, you don't look like you are having trouble breathing at all in your dress. A friend of mine told me that she ended up losing about 5 pounds in the weeks before her wedding from all the stress. Based on your sagas, it looks like you have more than enough stress!!!! Oh Alison, your hair looks gorgeous! I like the veil both ways so I couldn't say which one looks better than the other, but I do think you should show off your hairstyle somehow. The color of your hair reflects the light and looks so nice in the pictures. You can really see all the curls. Maybe you could wear the waterfall veil at the church and then take it off at the reception? Or just wear the veil underneath.
And I can't believe that stupid hairdresser. UGH! You'd think she would have some sympathy. What a wench. Maybe the manager will be able to smack some sense into her and calm her down.

Alison ....

Such stress, sweetie. All this, and you're out of town. I can only imagine what you're going through.

As far as your hair, I would call the manager again & explain that while you LOVED the result, she made you feel terrible & you absolutely do not want that on your wedding day! Especially with all of the money that you're spending .... !!!

A suggestion ... now that you have pics of a style you like, you may want to call another shop & have someone else replicate your style. That's easy. Did you try Maximus Salon in Westbury? There are quite a few excellent stylists there & if you tell them your story ... who knows?!

As for your veil ... its beautiful ... but don't cover up your gorgeous hair! Also, it gets a little annoying when its forward ... when you're dancing it gets in your face a lot. Wear it under, you'll never even know its there!!!

Good luck & post for help if you need it! we'll get you names of people who are recommended if you need it!
