******3.4.10 QOTD*****

Ahh the joys of wedding planning...There are so many ups and downs...one minute you think everything's on track and the next minute things can turn to Shyt...

I've gotten so wrapped up in this whole thing, planning and dwelling on every single detail...but recently Ive really stepped back and wondered is all this really necessary?

So are there times when you think you should have just eloped? Or have you ever stepped back and thought why the heck am I doing this? Is it to please my guests or myself? Is anyone else really going to notice all the minor details like cake table decor and decorative table numbers? Do you think if you could start over you would do things differently?

With me, I love the DIY stuff and pay a lot of attention to detail. But at the same time, I realize that there's a good chance ppl really wont notice it that much. So I guess its more for my satisfaction. I've always wanted a big wedding...not huge...but big. However, I can say that this is definitely a Once in a lifetime thing for me and becasue of that, I would probably do everything exactly the same if I started over.

I think a lot of the stress lies in the spending issue though. So with that said, I could actually see myself being a wedding planner becasue I love planning the details, and once someone else was spending the big bucks, it would be much more enjoyable!

The only things I would do differently would be to choose my bridal party wiser....

Also, to be honest, I would have a small family only wedding because this everyone's invited stuff is leaving me BROKE!

I think this all the time. I told FH since day one, if we get stressed out about this or it's too much we will just go elope. We could bring our parents and siblings and that's it. I wouldn't mind going to the courthouse and doing it, and neither would he. We just want the marriage.

It's sooo easy to get ****** into this. This site, and the tv shows, etc. It's fun, and nice, and I love this site and watching the shows, but I make sure that I always give myself a reality check.

Do we really need this? Is this money really worth it for a couple of hours?!?! Most of the time, the answer is no. Weddings get excessive, esp. in NY (not to knock anyone on here), and I don't want to do that. I just want to celebrate our love and have a nice party.

I also HATE being center of attention, and get nervous about that. A lot of times, I think we should just do it ourselves, but we're already almost there. Family wants to be there (and we have a lot), so do friends.

I've been pretty good with our budget and not going crazy. I'm not going to make ourselves go into debt. When I start to think we need to add this and that, I (or Dino) bring me back down to reality.

I wish I didn't spend so much on my dress! But my mom paid, and doesn't mind.

Everything else I've been under budget.

i've learned that us brides usually hit the doubting phase when there is about 3-4 months to go. I used to wish we would have eloped but now that things have come together and it is TOO LATE to elope I am excited an eager for the day to come.

Good question

I KNOW most other people won't notice the small details.....but I notice them, and that's all that matters to me. I've never wanted to elope. I've always wanted to have the big, over-the-top wedding, and that's exactly what I'm having. My FH on the other hand would've been VERY happy just going to Vegas

I'm not the right one to answer as we were going to get married on a sailboat with 40 guests. Since we're now having a bigger wedding, I'm realizing all the little things all you ladies really have to think about. We're still going small-scale, but I do believe people will notice the little touches.

Honestly... No

I love it! I love every minute of planning even when I want to pull my hair out. I have certainly had my ups and downs but I have never said EFF It let's just elope. The stressful times are what makes the great times even greater.

I thrive on stressful moments. Not that I enjoy them I mean I take what is thrown at me and work through it as efficiantly as possible. I knew not everything would be perfect from the moment I got engaged but I still knew what I wanted. So I am taking that vision and running with it. If it means a guest doesn't notice something small I putmy blood sweat and tears into then it's their loss bc they will be the ones who missed out on the FABULOUSNESS of my wedding.

every day I just hope all of this money could've been spent on a down pymnt on a nice apt and we could just start on having a family

first this was to satisfy my parents whose dream was to have this happy lavish wedding, then I got into this so I really wanted everything, now I just wish I have never started on this crap cause honestly almost no one really cares

all the details that we are having is only for us, as I said nobody will or does care. Its all for us. we and our children and grandchildren will look at these pix for the rest of our lives and no one else.
for the guests: as long as there is booze, good food and fun music nothing really matters

constantly think about eloping. If I had my way, I would use my entire wedding fund to pay off my student loans (it would cut a serious dent into them and I would be able to pay them off in only 5 years instead of 10!), however my parents would have a cow. They are super traditional and want the church wedding, etc. Part of me wants the big wedding affair though because I can see all my family/friends together in 1 place...I just wish it didn't cost so much!!

A friend of mine told me her sister's wedding in 1996 cost only $ 4K. I told her 4K only covers basic photography packages these days and she nearly fainted..

I never thought of eloping. The process has caused some fights between my mom and I but nothing too severe that I would just want to elope.

I've had the occasionally thought of, 'omg.. we're really spending all this $ on 1 day.' Then I wake up and realize that if I didn't do it this way I would regret it for the rest of my life. I didn't have a sweet 16 and didn't have a eparty. As of right now i'm skipping custom table #'s and possibly custom menu's.

I've had a few moments where I'm like 'really, when did this become so important to me?!' but overall I love that we haven't bought into any of the Wedding Industry Complex bullshyt. We haven't done anything just because 'we're suppossed to'...but marching to the beat of a different drummer hasn't been 100% easy either.

I'm thrilled that our wedding will be FH and I, through and through. I wouldn't do anything differently, no way!

I think about this a lot and often wished I eloped to save a boatload of money. However, I love the details and always like the small touches at weddings. I am doing all of this b/c it completes the vision I have and I know the photographer will capture it.

If I could go back and do this all over again, I wouldn't. I never wanted this. I would've been ok with a church and dinner at a restaurant with my family. FH wanted this and now realizes we should've just done that. Too much money and too much stress. He was too stubborn to see it before.

I never give throught that we should have eloped. I cannot imagine all of our family and friends being there. We are actually enjoying our wedding planning and so far there is nothing I would do differentlly!
