49 Days and I think I have to get a new dress!/ I HAVE A NEW IDEA FOR MY DRESS- NEED INPUT!
THANK YOU GIRLS FOR ALL YOUR HELP AND ALL YOUR IDEAS! I'm going to put it all together, sketch some of your ideas onto paper, and then go see her. You have all been a great help- I was flipping out thinking I may have to order a new dress. THAT'S WHY I LOVE YOU GIRLS!!HUGS!
READ BELOW THEN READ THIS How do you think it would look if I made the back of the dress into a corset type that way she would have enough material to extend the halter straps to the back of the dress? If you look at the back there are panels. She can take out the panels and put in the corset. I'm calling her tomorrow but how do you think it would look?
I had some surgery done on my neck/shoulder area about three weeks ago and it's not getting any better. The problem is that the mass was the size of a football and in order to get it out they had to mess around with all the muscles and nerves that are in the neck. Well, it has affected the whole left upper side of my body. It is extremely sensitive to touch or to cloth (shirt) lightly touching it. The only time it's not painful is when im asleep.
My dress is a halter and it lies smack in the area that's sensitive. I don't think Phylis can make it into a stapless. I don't think she can even make the halter into an semi off the shoulder.
I may have to order a whole new dress. The thing is- if I wait a month and see if it gets better and it dosen't- i'm SCREWED. If I order a new dress and put a rush on it and I get it in a month and I feel better- i'm SCREWED.
I don't know what I should do. I have a follow up on the 28th. I know- wait and see what he says but he dosen't know how long this could last. He even told me that it could be two weeks or two months.
Re: 49 Days and I think I have to get a new dress!
Seamstresses are amazing. One girl had a review and 2 days before her wedding she made her dress a strapless and it looked amazing. Your dress is so pretty it could look good as a strapless or they could make it have shoulder straps. If you really think you need a new dress I think you should go around to stores and see if you can find one you can buy off the rack. Many stores will sell them and they are discounted.

not sure if this would help but have you ever heard of moleskin? It's a cushiony bandage kind of material...my mom used it on us as kids when we got blisters and stuff...maybe if you take a large piece and apply it to the sensitive area it will make it so your dress doesn't hurt you? It's worth a shot...good luck!!!

Nic, I don't know what to tell you. I would wait till the 28 and then see what he says and also go see phylis and see what she says before getting a new one.

Can she put straps on it? Take the halter part and make straps? I hope you feel better.

I was thinking that but I don't think there is enough material to reach. Unless for some strange reason I lose 30 lbs by the fitting and she has to take the dress in 2 inches on each side.

I am having straps added to my dress. The bridal store has extra material. Don't stress about it go see the seamstress they can do anything you can pay for.

This is what I was thinking... Maybe even if the back part of the straps are the fabric from the bottom hem of the dress... then it will go together a little more...
Are you planning on wearing your veil the entire night??? because then you won't even see it! and it will hopefully not bother your sensitive areas.

Hmmmmm, I think the corset idea is a good idea if she is able to create the look you are thinking of..............Or, if she can create straps instead, that would look really pretty too!
I just LOVE your dress! I've loved that dress since I saw a picture you posted of it a while back!!!! Soooooo beautiful!!!!!!
I really hope it all works out for you! I'm sorry to hear the recovery isn't that comfy for you either

Talk to Phyllis.
Maybe when you change the halter to straps, when you run out of lacey material, the remainder of the straps can be made from the fabric that is on the bottom of you dress....
I think that would look totally fine - -nobody would ever know.....

How about just turning the halter into regular straps?????? That will be more supportive, and maybe like in a different part of your back?
I think the corset can be nice,,,,,,but w/o seeing it,,,,,its so hard! It sounds like you have a GREAT seamstress....she'll be able to help you!

Everyone above has already made some great points that I totally agree with.
Just to add another - I really think that she can make this into a strapless, sweetheart neck dress. She may have to add some boning to the sides so that it stays up, but it definitely looks possible.
Either way, I don't think you'll need an entirely new dress. This one is gorgeous and I think Phyllis can help

i'm thinking you can just use material that is the same fabric as the bottom of the dress for straps and it will be great.

I never thought of that. You're right. I have to go talk to Phylis but i'm just the type of person that likes to have my ideas ready. See this is another idea and without straps- nothing would touch my chest.
THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR ALL YOUR HELP AND GREAT IDEAS!!!
