FI and I were planning on going to Jones Beach for the fireworks. If we went in the late afternoon at 4 or 5ish - would we be able to get onto the beach? or will it already be packed? anyone have any comments? Thanks Christine

Re: 4th of july at jones beach
I really don't know. I've gone a few times about that time or alter and just parked along the side of the road leading to the beach, people were having picnics and stuff there and you coul listen to the fireworks music in the car. I think the beach itself will probably be packed

Last year FH and I went to Wantagh Park to see the fireworks. There was lots of space on the grass for picnicking, and it only took about 15 minutes to get out of the park and on the road (compared to the hour or so it took me the one time I went to Jones. Never again!) The view from the park was excellent.

Where is Wantagh Park? We just moved to Merrick and we're having people over on Sunday. It might be nice to take a ride over to see the fireworks. Do you have to be a resident to get in?

Wantagh Park is right on Merrick Road in Wantagh. Can't miss it, it's right near Jetmore and west of the Wantagh Parkway. You can just drive in, you don't need to be a resident.
I think we might go to Florence Ave. Beach to watch the fireworks from all the different towns.
