4x4s

I'm not a big SUV fan...I know a lot of people have them...but I think they are big gas guzzlers and that some people drive crazy in them, b.c they thin they are safe, etc...

but it turns out that we are looking for a car...and it needs to have 4-wheel drive (for our vacation house)

we've been looking into the Jeep Wrangler (I had one in college) , but thought I'd ask you guys about others...I also have this fear that I will have triplets and I won't have enough space to put all three!! LOL

we also looked into LandRover Discovery...but its a little over our budget and very bad on gas

Re: 4x4s

you could do something like a subaru wagon - they have 4 wheel drive and are better on gas. Al has a Subaru impreza outback sport.

Re: 4x4s

i don't know how you feel about wagons, but the audi has all wheel drive & is quite luxurious inside!!

the outback is almost the same thing (but probably a lot less expensive!!).

Re: 4x4s

Someone already said it, but I'll second the Outback or Forrester.

I drive a Pontiac Vibe (identical to the Toyota Matirx) and it also comes in a 4-wheel drive version. It gets excellent gas mileage, has room for plenty, and is a crossover verhicle. Not quite a car, not quite an SUV.

Re: 4x4s

What about the Honda Pilot - do a search on SUVs that Anna started a few days ago.....lots of helpful stuff in there.

good luck!

Re: 4x4s

My mom has an '03 forrester, and my dad had an '00 outback. I have an '02 Honda CRV. I only drove my dad's car a handful of times, so I can't really tell you much about it. While I LOVE my car, and it gets great gas mileage, if I had to choose between the forrester and CRV, I think I'd choose the forrester. The ride is definitely more car like, and I feel safer. Not that I don't feel safe in my car, but the 'HIGH ROLLOVER RISK' sticker on my sun visor freaks me out a bit. The forrester is definitely better on curvy roads. Both cars drive equally well in snow/ice/rainy conditions.
Also, if you're considering a Subaru, I believe all of their 4 cylinder cars have the same basic engine, and the only real difference between the outback/forrester is cosmetic. The outback is a bit more luxurious, and the ride is quieter. I may be wrong, but I think the forrester has a higher weight capacity because they have the same engine, and the forrester's body is lighter than the outback.
One thing about my CRV is that the back seat is a lot more comfortable than the forrester.
I hope I helped, and didn't confuse you more. :) If you have any more questions, feel free to FM me.

Re: 4x4s

I only drive american cars! I have a 2000 chevy blazer 2 door and it's perfect! (and going back to the leasing company tomorrow But I'm getting the same thing in a 2003 )
It's not too big or too high. It handles great and is really good in the snow! I never had ANY problems with it!! I swear I never brought it in for anything but an oil change! The gas isn't bad at all-I fill up about every 10 days and I drive it everyday!

Re: 4x4s

We had a jeep wrangler...okay it was FH's but I took it over when we moved in together It lasted like 13 years or something like that - but definitely no room for triplets if that happens!!!! He nearly cried when we had to get rid of it, he loved it so much. Now we have a Nissan X-terra. I know its not american, but its great. And there's room for triplets.

Re: 4x4s

I had the Forester and Loved it. We now have the big Jeep which I also love. I would give the Forester a slight push over the Jeep for two reasons. I loved the full time AWD and for me it was a bit more manageable. Im short so I have to step up into the Jeep. I think it would be easier to deal with all the baby stuff in the Forester.
