5 Point Harness Car Seats (sad but important)

My cousin sent this to me and I thought I pass the message on. My sister has the Britax carseat and wasnt going to register for it becuase ti was so expensive, but the guy at Toys R us gave us this spiel on why its was important. This is Montage about a family who lost thier little boy.

OK...not to discount her sadness...but the SEATBELT failed her...it had NOTHING to do with the carseat/booster seat...furthermore, her child was ONLY in a booster seat b/c of new laws requiring children to be in them until 80 pounds AND 7-8 years. Based on that, my daughter will likely be in one LEGALLY speaking until she's 12. She is built like me and I didn't weigh 80 pounds until middle school.

This does not mean you need to spend $300 on a car seat. Seatbelts also kill people in crashes when the car is on fire...because sometimes they won't unlatch...so we should all carry a machede [sp?] around as well to cut the belt. I sound evil I know...but I did have a friend lose her mom because the seatbelt DID work...all too well.

In some towns (i know a bunch in NJ) ... they have car seat check days.. the cops set up shop in a parking lot and you can bring ur car/carseat there.. they will 'install' and make sure its in correctly...
i think its a great idea! but you have to call your local PD to find out who /where /when in yoru area

they do it like 4/5 times a year at the target in fairfield, nj
(sorry no specific LI info)

you can call the state troopers on LI and they will not only check them, but sometimes install the seats for you. i know this b/c MIL watches 2 kids and their mom is a cop and she's NUTS about how the carseats are in MIL's car [giant suburban] ironically, one day MIL helped the dad put the kids and all their stuff in his car, one of the seats was falling over.

I think that was point.. that ppl tend to put smaller kids in a booster when they can be more protected in a car seat.

Also no 'Needs' to buy a $300 carseat. I just know I will, when the time comes.
