Can y'all tell I'm a freaky flier? Quick! Pass the Xanax and the vodka!
Anyhoo, I was told that if we do not take the SUndays-only Honeymoon charter to St. Lucia, we have to change to a 50 passenger prop in San Juan for the rest of the trip. I am f$%^&ing terrified over this prospect. Anyone? I am afraid we may have to re-think our honeymoon over this. Or else wait a week to take the next Honeymoon non-stop charter....

You will be fine Rachel!!! I'd be nervous too, but nothing a little alcohol won't fix! If you are that scared, I personally don't see anything wrong with waiting the week... FH and I would be doing that if that was our case...

Okay, so I'm the WORST flyer ever - need Ambien to completely knock me out b/c Xanex isn't strong enough! BUT, a prop plane in the carribean is no big deal. Its actually less scary b/c you can see the ground and the beautiful ocean the whole time and I'm sure the flight will be quick. My advice would be Just Do It!!!

I love to fly, so I am not help on this one. I am dying to go on a helicopter ride. I've always wanted to do that.
Just go, have fun and relax. if you are nervous or scared it makes it harder and worse. Just relax, undwind, have a shot or two, and dont worry.

Re: 50 Passenger Prop Planes in the Caribbean....
I've been on several small planes in both Costa Rica & Belize, the smallest was a four seater! The last small plane I took was from Guatemala to Belize & I had to sit in the co-pilot seat because the other couple in the plane had so much luggage that they couldn't fit it all under the plane so they had to stick it inside with us! It was a bumpy ride (and I HATE flying) but we made it just fine. They don't fly as high as the bigger planes do so for some stupid reason I felt safer, like if the plane did go down I think we could survive an emergency landing better in one of those than a Jumbo plane. But all my stupidity aside....you'll be fine, most of these flights are short ones anyways. Just have a couple before you get on & you'll ready to go! DON'T let this ruin your trip, I hate it when people decide not to go someplace because they let their fear get the best of them, stare fear right in the face & just do it babe!!!

I was in a seaplane in Nova Scotia and I wasn't scared, oddly enough. I think it WAS because I could see the ground and it didn't seem very far away. I actually enjoyed that one and it was bumpy.
Melissa, FH and I went on a helicopter ride here in Manhattan and I was so f-in terrified that my nails drew blood in FH's arm. It was NOT fun and it was so scary that I couldn't even look when we circled the Statue of Liberty. I was completely convinced that we were going to crash into the Hudson River and would be a headline in The Post the next day. It was truly terrifying.

My husband works in avaition so I know entirely too much about this. The thing to worry about is 'who owns/operates the plane?' rather than 'how small is the plane?'. If a large company is operating a very small plane, it still a very safe venture. But if a small unknown operating is flying - then worry.

Funny I thought the same thing, I could see the rainforest underneath & the Mayan Ruins in Tikal, it was so awesome & beautiful that I loved looking out, normally I hate lookingo ut the window in the commercial planes, but anyhoo.... that's all any type of fear is...it's all mind over matter. Enjoy the ride....think of it this way...that short plane ride will take you to the best time of your lives, it will be worth it!

Re: 50 Passenger Prop Planes in the Caribbean....
Rachel, we went on vacation to Dominican Republic and did the little 50-seater plane thing. Its a little bumpy, and I was a little scared at first, but the flight was fine, especially coming back. I find the landings made on those planes to be a little better than the big planes, most likely b/c they don't drop altitude as fast. I wouldn't worry and would take the little plane.
