So last night I go to a bridal store ( not one I bought dress at -- that s in NJ)...fm me for name... So I have the dress on and the seamstess pins me ( she is lovely)...all i NEED IS A bustle and the top taken in and cups sewn in then she asked If I knew the price.... I respond with NO...
She comes back and hands me a post it -- mind you I am on a podium 2 ft high in my dress and heels....
She says we will treat you like you bought your dress here...but we will charge you a $55 steam fee.... Ok.. I am cool with that.... so not cool with the price
a total of $565 before taxes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ***?!?
Yeah I told her I am sorry but I can't pay that... I got such a good deal on my dress that I only paid $1000 for my $1800 dress.
They charged me a $50 pinning fee.

Re: $565 for alterations??!!!???
That is nuts. You would think they would tell you approximately how much alterations were before they started.

I took my dress to a tailor. I had cups sewn in, the top taken in 6 inches, a bustle and the pressing and it came to $215. I think 565 is crazy. They def should have told you that before they started.

Re: $565 for alterations??!!!???
That's insane.
I have to have a 20 point bustle put on, a hem, steaming and probably much more and I was told that they cap alterations at $500 at my salon.
$565 is insane for that little bit of work.

Re: $565 for alterations??!!!???
That's bananas!! They're trying to capitalize off the name 'bridal' or 'wedding'. I hate that. Definitely take it elsewhere quick!
My dress is a lace mermaid. I had the hem shortened slightly, the hips taken in a tad, the top let out about 2 inches, and a double french bustle done and it's costing me $250.
Let me know if you want the seamstresses information. She owns a cleaners/tailors in Glendale. Came highly recommended from my moms coworker who's been going to her for years. Very sweet lady. Eased a lot of my gown anxieties (my first seamstress became unexpectedly ill and was unable to complete the work, and had my dress for about 3 weeks untouched...4 weeks before my wedding.)
Good luck.

Wow. Those must have been some fancy pins.
Alterations are such a racket - they know that you likely don't know where else to go.
