80s music
This is a bit of a vent, but mostly I am just curious to hear what others think. We've just finished our band search, and one thing that really struck us is that none (or very few) of the bands showcased 80s/early 90s music in their showcases/videos. Instead, many of them focused on the 70s. (If I hear 'Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now' one more time, I will....well, you get the picture). We find this odd, because we would think that many of the people getting married now are in their 20s and 30s and grew up with 80s/early 90s music. We've asked a few bandleaders about this, and they have said either that most people request 60s and 70s music or that there isn't much 80s music that a band could play. If find the second reply to be somewhat silly. We have a whole list of 80s music that a band could play - from Madonna to Violent Femmes to Huey Lewis. Enough to fill up a whole night if one wanted.
Did anyone else feel the same way? The only answer we could come up with to this puzzle is that people our age may be more likely to hire DJs for financial reasons; perhaps most of the people who hire bands are in their 40s and 50s and are hiring them for corporate parties instead of for weddings.
Anyway, if people are interested, I have started a list of 80s dance music that I am happy to share.
