9 months too late

Re: 9 months too late

I disagree with:

Reason #3: You do less housework.

Reason #7: Youre less depressed.

at least for my situation.

Otherwise, it makes perfect sense to me. Although, I was never the biggest advocate for marriage anyway. I am the person who was trying to decide between getting married and buying a new sofa set.

Reason #1: You have a better body.
* True for me when single. More time to work out.

Reason #2: You’re more likely to achieve great things.
*Disagree.

Reason #3: You do less housework.
*Uh, agree.

Reason #4: You can do what you want with your money—including keep it.
*agree

Reason #5: You have better sex.
*I'm a slut so I probably should abstain from answering this question.

Reason #6: You’re better rested and smarter.
*OMG, an elbow to the face at 3 am and snoring = not cool.

Reason #7: You’re less depressed.
Don't agree.

Reason #8: You have better friendships.
Kind of.

Reason #9: Your travel tales are enviable.
Please see #5.

Reason #10: You know yourself—and what you want out of a relationship.
*I knew myself before.

I do agree with a lot of the points, however, I would still never give up my relationship with my husband then boyfriend for anything in the world.

Re: 9 months too late

Most of those don't hold true for me.

Reason #1: You have a better body.
Nope, I lost 20 lbs before I got married.

Reason #2: You’re more likely to achieve great things.
I'm going back to school- wouldn't have done it w/o DH's encouragement.

Reason #3: You do less housework.
We pretty much share it.

Reason #4: You can do what you want with your money—including keep it.
I don't feel restricted at all/

Reason #5: You have better sex.
Let's just say I'm happy.

Reason #6: You’re better rested and smarter.
Better rested: I sleep better with him beside me.
Smarter: see #2

Reason #7: You’re less depressed.
Why are married people assumed to be depressed? This is the happiest I've ever been

Reason #8: You have better friendships.
False. DH's kindess rubs off on me, and makes me less beastly.

Reason #9: Your travel tales are enviable.
I travel just as much as I did before.

Reason #10: You know yourself—and what you want out of a relationship.
Ok, the only true one.

Verdict: Marriage may not be for everyone, but it works for me.

for Moi

Reason #1: You have a better body.
No-not necessarily. I've looked better and worse at various times in my adult life.

Right now I look fan-fuking-tastic

Reason #2: You’re more likely to achieve great things.
NO-he does nothing to limit my achievment...if anything he is very encouragin

Reason #3: You do less housework.
N/A-remains to be seen. his mom is in the equation right now, but I am thinking this will be true...I'll do less single.

Reason #4: You can do what you want with your money—including keep it.
I don't feel restricted at all by him...I don't think I'd spend any more or less single.

Reason #5: You have better sex.
I'd definitely have MORE sex, b/c I'd be very interested in humping around!

Reason #6: You’re better rested and smarter.
No- I can't sleep when he's not there
No- I am smarter, no matter what

Reason #7: You’re less depressed.
No- mental illness runs in my family. I'd just have 'different' things to get my all nutty.

Reason #8: You have better friendships.
No- we've both done very well in maitaining our outside friendships. we encourage each other to do that.

Reason #9: Your travel tales are enviable.
No- we've travelled all over the world together...we SHARE a wanderlust

Reason #10: You know yourself—and what you want out of a relationship.
Yes- I say yes b/c he has been my only 'real' relationship (starting dating him at 19) so I may have more 'love' experience. I've never 'loved' anyone else in my life.

damn it...I told Leo to draw up the papers....now I may have to reconsider.

Reason #1: You have a better body.
Not true. My weight is never where I want it to be and being married has not changed that.

Reason #2: You’re more likely to achieve great things.
Disagree. JW always encourages me and pushes me to achieve more!

Reason #3: You do less housework.
That is true. Men can be slobs and managing an apartment is easier that a huge house.

Reason #4: You can do what you want with your money—including keep it.
This didn't change for me. We maintain mostly separate finances. We have joint bills and we pay those jointly.

Reason #5: You have better sex.
My husband is the best I have ever had. Hands down. Why would I change that?

Reason #6: You’re better rested and smarter.
I sleep better with JW there but I sleep earlier when I lived on my own.

Reason #7: You’re less depressed.
What??? Ummmm, no.

Reason #8: You have better friendships.
No, my friends before my relationship are still my friends after my relationship. If anything, I have more and better friends.

Reason #9: Your travel tales are enviable.
I didn't travel when I was single.

Reason #10: You know yourself—and what you want out of a relationship.
Nothing there has changed.

Reason #1: You have a better body.
I've been w/him forever-I used to be Paris Hilton skinny when I met him-but i think i DEF gained a few since getting married. So, true.

Reason #2: You’re more likely to achieve great things.
Disagree. Gaetano encourages me to do shizcrap.

Reason #3: You do less housework.
Def true-I never had to clean a bathroom/kitchen b4...YUCK.

Reason #4: You can do what you want with your money—including keep it.
No change here...The only thing I didn thave to do b4 was pay rent.

Reason #5: You have better sex.
I agree w/Jessica on this one LOL Plus Gaetano is a scorpio.

Reason #6: You’re better rested and smarter.
i am always tired now-so agree

Reason #7: You’re less depressed.
never was depressed.

Re: 9 months too late

Here are my takes on a few of these...

Reason #1: You have a better body.

Yes and No...I worked out like a nut before I met him and the first couple of years of being together...Since the wedding 2 months ago - I have forgotten what the inside of a gym looks like...

Reason #2: You’re more likely to achieve great things.
Not true...I get motivation from my hubby

Reason #3: You do less housework.
NOT TRUE for me...I'm a NEAT FREAK...always was and will be when it comes to the house work

Reason #4: You can do what you want with your money—including keep it.
True but this chagned for the better...I spent all my money - no idea what a savings account was until DH entered the pic...

Reason #5: You have better sex.
False...I have to say sex has NEVER been better since meeting DH

Reason #6: You’re better rested and smarter.
I agree...for some reason I'm always tired

I disagree with Reason #5: You have better sex - maybe it was that Catholic Guilt my mom instilled in me, but post-marriage sex is much less stressful and thus better.

I never listened to my mom. As evidenced in my answers regarding #5 and travel stories.

Re: 9 months too late

I have to say Jess, I saw this article and immediately thought of you. I knew this would catch your interest!! As for my take on it:

Reason #1: You have a better body.
I have the same body I've had since HS. Sorry ladies, most of you (all?) have met me, I'm a skinny lil b!tch.

Reason #2: You’re more likely to achieve great things.
I did acheive great things when I was single, however I think I've acheived greater things with Kevin. The greatest acheivement I haven't yet reached, that's to become a mother, and will only reach it with my trusty partner in crime.

Reason #3: You do less housework.
I have to say it's about the same. I always had chores growing up, at least now it's my own house. Plus Kevin does more than his fair share, and we have my step-daughter to help out too.

Reason #4: You can do what you want with your money—including keep it.
This is really the only one that I can bring myself to agree with. However, since Kevin and I have joined our money there is no more my/his and I honestly feel better about paying the bills together rather than separately. Fortunately we have similar financial beliefs so this usually isn't much of a problem; we spend together, we save together, and we splurge together!!

Reason #5: You have better sex.
Absolutely not!! I can only have sex with someone that I truly connect with on an emotional level, and I've never connected with anyone the way I do with Kevin. From a purely physical point of view, Kevin enjoys 'what he does' and OMG it makes all the difference in the world!!!!!!!!! Likewise, I enjoy rewarding him!!!

Reason #6: You’re better rested and smarter.
Now that I've been on the 'other side' I can't go back. I just can't sleep w/out Kevin there. I feel so much better (more secure) having him right next to me and know that I sleep sounder that way. As far as being smarter, Kevin has taught me so much about various things and exposed me to much of his life experiences that I have to say he's only helped improve my intellect, not hinder it.

Reason #7: You’re less depressed.
Completely false. I was depressed bc I was single, when I met Kevin I became happy and I've been this way ever since!! It's not that he 'makes me happy' in the sense that I'm dependent on him, but he makes me want to be happy. I have a new love for life that I've never had before, as sappy as that sounds.

Reason #8: You have better friendships.
I've had friends come and go my whole life, for whatever reason we've drifted. Same for Kevin. We were really like '2 lost souls swimming in a fish bowl' (for those of you familiar with Pink Floyd) and when we found each other it was like coming across an old best friend!!! Since I've been with him I've joined this site and made friends with incredible people, all unique. Having these couples as friends gives us both someone to 'play with' and I see these friendships lasting for many, many years down the road.

Reason #9: Your travel tales are enviable.
The only kind of traveling I did before was family vacations. Now the only trip Kevin and I took together was our honeymoon, so hands down it was better. But whether we're going to Hawaii or anywhere I'm so much happier having my dear husband beside me to share all of these new sites. I don't even like to go to the movies alone!!

Reason #10: You know yourself—and what you want out of a relationship.
Opposite. I think I know myself better now than I did then. I knew that I wanted a relationship, I wanted to get married, have kids, and grow old together. I now know that being married to Kevin was worth everything that came before, and that I can't wait to continue our journey.

I've got a wonderful husband who loves me and a beautiful step-daughter who adores me; I'm at the prime of my life!!!

Well - I had a better body before I got married - cant seem to get rid of this ginormous gut I have acquired somehow....

Re: 9 months too late

Reason #1: You have a better body.
Well, I did have a better body after the wedding, but I blew it now...preggo.

Reason #2: You’re more likely to achieve great things.
I quit my boring dead-end job AFTER the wedding.

Reason #3: You do less housework.
I get away with doing practically nothing. It's awesome. Before the wedding, it was all me.

Reason #4: You can do what you want with your money—including keep it.
I do what I want and don't really care

Reason #5: You have better sex.
Um....how do you improve perfection?

Reason #6: You’re better rested and smarter.
I am better rested now...I don't have a 40 mile commute anymore. Smarter, well I got out of housework and have a better job...

Reason #7: You’re less depressed.
I think knowing I have my best friend by my side each day makes me less depressed than wondering when he'd really be 'all mine.'

Reason #8: You have better friendships.
HAH. I have more friends since the wedding, so another no for the article.

Reason #9: Your travel tales are enviable.
I am a homebody...my travels don't make anyone drool.

Reason #10: You know yourself—and what you want out of a relationship.
?!?!?! I knew this when I was a kid. haha...but seriously, shouldn't you know this before dating anyone at all?

Conclusion: I am possibly more awesome than ever all because I have solidified my life with my best friend. Even if he does read my 'psycho' boards and want to name our child something stupid.
