90 Days

Hello All!

I think I might be crazy! I got engaged on August 5th of 2005 and then waited almost a year before even looking at a place for the reception. Then, for some strange reason...I started looking at catering places over the July 4th weekend. I booked my room on July 7th for a wedding on October 7th of 2006! After reading everything on this site, I think I am in over my head! The most important thing at the wedding is the music and I don't think I'll be able to find a DJ that is recommended and has availability for a Saturday night in October! Does anyone have any suggestions?! I did the invitations yesterday. I think I will get my dress off-the-rack at Nordstrom's or Nieman Marcus. I have two appointments for the flowers this week. Am I going to be able to get this together in time?!! I always said I would plan it within three months but I think I underestimated the amount there is to do!!

You can do it. I had only 5 1/2 months. A little longer than you but we booked all of our major vendors in just a few weeks time. If you need any help at all, please FM me.

I would suggest that you start emailing or calling the vendors right away to check their availability.

The biggest thing to remember when you plan on short time period is that you have to make decisions fast. I called 2 DJ's who were available for our date, made appointments with both the same day and booked after meeting them. You have to both really be in that mind frame and I promise it will all work out for you!

GOOD LUCK

Re: 90 Days

Thank you for your encouraging words! I had a nervous breakdown the day I booked, haven't eaten in 3 days and didn't get out of bed yesterday until 3pm. I have bounced back though...I ordered my invitations yesterday by Printing with Panache. Pat seems good. I really thought it would be easy...what was I thinking? I wanted a Saturday night in October, but didn't want to pay Saturday night prices! I hoped by booking last minute, I could be more cost-effective. Does anyone have any comments about Harbor Club...good, bad, indifferent? I looked at 15 places and called about 20. I almost booked Watermill (the Astor room is beautiful!) for the Friday after Thanksgiving but I didn't want to be the second wedding...the first wedding probably booked over a year ago! In addition, in November, there is no outside. My smokers would have to smoke out front with the valet!

I need to get a great DJ! I just want everyone to have fun and dance. I have already called all my friends and made them commit to staying and dancing the whole night! I don't want anyone to leave before me! I have been to those weddings where there is a receiving line to leave at 11pm and then the bride gets caught saying goodbye to everyone! How can I avoid that?!

Contact the vendors on the DJ vendor page and see who is available. I'm sure someone is available for your date and time (and if not) they can always refer you to someone if you ask!

Good luck!

Lipglossjunky just got married at the Harbor Club. I'm sure she'll answer any questions - just send her a FM.

For DJ's call High Voltage, FM Entertainment or LI Sound (in that order) (all LIW vendors) to see if they're available.

There are lots and lots of good florists, it comes down to style, how well you click with the floral designer and price.

Photography is something you need to get on ASAP.

Good luck weekend twin!!!!!!!

Thank you for your suggestions on DJ. Why did you recommend those DJs? Have you heard them at a wedding?

I've heard all of them, and they're all good. High Voltage is mine (which is why I said call him first) and I heard him at the LIW Anniversary Party. The other two I heard at fellow LIW bride's weddings.

A really good resource is the Vendors Helping Brides board. Post there and include your wedding date and see who is available if those three aren't. The Vendor board is a good way to find any other vendor you need as well. Just stay away from M&V limos if you're getting limos. They have the worst BBB rating of all the limo vendors on this site.
