What are you doing name-wise after the wedding? I'm 98% decided, just curious what the breakdown is for the rest of you

Re: 9/3/08 Name Change Poll
I had the MOST difficult time with this. I ended up taking DH's name entirely but it was a VERY hard decision for me. In the end I am happy that I took his name.

Re: 9/3/08 Name Change Poll
didn't change my name, not really planning to... don't see why I need to... DH does not care either way, and if we have a kid it'll have his last name. And if people call us Mr and Mrs his last name that's fine with me too. I don't see the need to go through the legal hassle - on the marriage license it said just b/c you put a new surname down does not mean it's legally changed and you can use whatever name you want as long as it's without the intent to defraud.
i did put his name on the ML but only b/c if I change my mind in the future I'd have to go to court and have it legally changed to his name then - HUGE PITA.
but it's nice and easy not worrying about name changing

I am going to take my FH's last name and make my maiden name my middle name. I never had a middle name so this was an easy decision for me!

Re: 9/3/08 Name Change Poll
I'm taking FH's last name completely. This was a tough decision for me to make bc I am going from a VERY italian last name, to a VERY hispanic name. I wasn't sure if I was ready for that huge change. My new name will be Maria Hernandez... There is nothing Italian about that, and I was worried that I'd be losing a part of who I am if I chose to take his name completely.
In the end, I made the decision to change my name completely and I'm glad I did.

I'm taking his completely. It wasn't a hard decision for me at all. I guess I'm traditional in that way.
But it helps that his last name is a nice Italian last name (like my maiden name), but it's shorter!

Re: 9/3/08 Name Change Poll
This has been the most confusing name change ever. I went from a completely Irish last name to a Chinese last name. Let me tell you I confused a lot of parents who didn't know I was getting married this summer. They all thought I was a new teacher; which they never like. Then I had a lot of them telling me 'Wait you are not chinese'. Plus I always refer to myself in third person and keep caling myself my old name. My new kids are laughing at me. Plus all my old kids come by my room every morning screaming good morning Ms. F (my old name). Oh and my email is still my old name b/c Hawaii takes forever to send marriage licenses. lets just say its been an entertaining first two days of the school year.

Re: 9/3/08 Name Change Poll
It seems several of us had a hard time with this. I really wanted to hyphenate, as I did with my first marriage but FH feels like I am not committed then. On the marriage license I said I was going to use his name and wow-the smile made it all the worthwhile. He feels I am not going anywhere, so it is a forever change. If I don't change, I am not committed. I have not used my maiden name for many years during my first marriage, so I am not very attached to it but I felt it was hard to get back to if needed. My boss is busting my chops about having 3 last names soon, which is pissing me off.

I still don't know what i'm going to do! I really don't want to change my name, but it means so much to DH. He wants me to change it so bad. I will definitley add it in some way when we have kids, but i'm not sure if i'm going to hyphenate or make my maiden name a second middle name. For now, i'm keeping my maiden until we have kids.

Re: 9/3/08 Name Change Poll
I am hyphenating my last name. My sister and I are the end of our last name and legally I want to keep it. I'll be known as Mrs. C though. FH doesn't like it, but I think he should be respectful of my name. It's not like I'm not taking his name at all.

Re: 9/3/08 Name Change Poll
I will go by Mrs. Married, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to make my maiden name my middle name. 90% of my married friends on facebook have done this, and I get a little twinge of jealousy every time I see their names. Right now my name is First Maiden Married on facebook --- it was an easy change, even though I'll miss my old name.
I've been toying with the idea of keeping my middle name ... and changed my name to First Married on facebook last night, but it just felt weird to me and I changed it back in 2 minutes.
I'd still go by First Married or Mrs. Married socially... but for my diploma and formal legal docs (I'm about to graduate law school) I'd probably use First Maiden Married.
We'll see... we'd use my old middle name as the middle name of our first daughter.
I dont know if I should force myself to drop my old name altogether, or just embrace it.
Edit: DH wants me to take his name, but doesn't care at all what I do with my middle name -- he's totally fine with me making my Maiden my middle name, but he's just traditional and wants us to have the same last name and for me to be Mrs. Married.

Re: 9/3/08 Name Change Poll
this wasn't a tough decision for me at all. I like the tradition of taking the man's name. Even though I love my roots and family, it's not too heartbreaking to be apart of this 'new' family we'll be starting together.

Re: 9/3/08 Name Change Poll
On the marriage license i put Maiden Married under the last name part, but not hyphenated. I think this way I can use either. I still haven't decided if I should change my license and my 20+ credit cards! I'm keeping my last name on all my professional things, though sometimes I feel bad if i don't change everything. will FH ever really know???

Re: 9/3/08 Name Change Poll
I would really love to just go to FH's last name- but its a struggle- my sister and I are the last of the family and there are no boys to carry the name forward. Plus I work with a lot of clients & they all know me by my current last name
i am thinking that I will take my maiden name as my middle (since I dont have one) and his name as my last.
