A bit disappointed, but still some good news... RE: our interfaith wedding... a bit long
As some of you may know - we were planning on having a Jewish-Buddhist wedding (or, JewBoo, as we JewBoos tend to call call ourselves!)We got the rabbi willing to do it, and we had a monk who was going to do it, but he 'derobed' (decided he didn't want to be a monk anymore) so obviously he was out... So we decided we would ask the resident monk at our center... I scheduled an appointment for tonight and was really excited...
So, tonight we met, and for a number of reasons, we found out from him that it is frowned upon to have a Buddhist monk from our belief system do weddings - if interested, I could share - they are good reasons... he was so nice and gentle when he broke the news to us, but of course, we were crushed...
BUT - then he told us the good news - that we can have a seperate ceremony at our Center!!! It will be a small intimate gathering withour friends, family, and people from the community, at the altar, and after we would have whats called a 'Puja' which is pretty much a food potluck type of gathering, and have a small aprty...
Soooo - in a way we are having 2 weddings! Thats the good news - we want to do it the Friday before our wedding - on the 16th, so we can have a calm and relaxing ceremony the day before....
Isn't that nice?

Well - yeah, sort of - we still are both feeling a bit sad tonight that it cant really be the way we wanted, but I'm sure as we get closer to the date and get to have both we will look back and remember how wonderful it is!
