A burning question

I've wondered this for quite a while.....

Occasionally I'll see a straight man with his wedding ring on his right finger. What's the deal???

I'm Greek. Traditional Greek's wear them on their right hand. My mom does.

I always wondered that too.
I have some friends from Germany & the guy wears his band on the right hand, so does his Dad. I think some cultures DO wear it on the right.

The right hand is a big European thing. That's probably it. Mr Boots told me that... after I schooled him in the ways of the Claddagh ring! He gets so uppity when other cultures have, ya know, culture! His uncle wears his band on his right hand, but his mom wears hers on the left. And my Austrian SIL wears hers on the right.

Or the guys are just idiots and don't know their left from their right.

I would go with that theory first

The greek orthodox church does place the ring on the right hand. I'm greek and i am wearing my wedding band on my right hand. Our priest placed it on our right hand although this tradition is an old one and isnt always followed here in the US or in Greece. My parents and aunt wear theirs on the left and I know the church now says you can wear it on either hand you want. I think a lot of the younger generation is going back to the old tradition on this point. A lot of my friends that recently got married have placed the rings on their right ring fingers.

I think other eastern orthodox religions follow this practice (ie russian orthodox, etc) though.

i see a lot of european men wear it on their right hand. i remember asking my mom that when i was 15 and saw some man at a water park doing that and i was soooooo perplexed and mom said that is what it was.

my dad was born in poland and wore his ring on his right hand. i know several people from germany and greece that wear it also on the right its a cultural thing for sure
