A coworker left me speechless yesterday...

Original post by MrsP2Be

I really like this lady, she's had a troubled past and she was raised by a very religious mother..but I didn't expect this. She said her son is dating a Jewish girl 'like you' but it won't last once her parents find out. I explained that many of my Jewish friends married nice Christian boys.

Then she says 'I don't mean any offense to this, but why don't Jews just realize ..it's been 2000 years already, the Messiah has already come. Just accept it!'

I've had a lot of people say a lot of things to me about my religion, our customs, our holidays. But no one has every basically said..suck it up and believe in Jesus.

It's totally true..whenever someone says 'I don't mean to sound offensive' it's like they feel this gives them an out.

I reported ANOTHER coworker for saying 'those Jews think they're the chosen ones' already. I don't know what it is about my office that breeds this crap.

I have to admit though... that I also have heard that a LOT of Jewish families want their daughters to marry Jewish boys. And once they find out the son their daughter is dating is NOT Jewish (he could be christian, muslim, etc.)... its not going to fly.

This is a very common perspective. Hell I have had plenty of my jewish friends that are women say that!

I think all parents would like their son/daughter to marry a person within their faith.

Yes it is true that many Jewish families want their daughters to marry Jewish men, but that's not the part that made me speechless. That was kind of the 'intro' to the whole thing.

WHOA! I would have gone ballistic. When people 'try to understand' my faith, they often make ignorant comments. Sometimes I respond, sometimes I do not. If I can accept that Jesus existed but was not my savior, why can't someone else. People should be able to co-exist with different beliefs and respect towards each other.

Yah, but just because someone is Jewish, doesn't mean that their familiy will absolutely object. Who is this lady to predict what may or may not happen in someone else's family? AND, who is she to predict that once the family states their objection, the girl will stop seeing the guy?

What that lady said was not just slightly offensive, it was really bad.

Clearly this woman s@cks, but honestly I'd just keep my distant from here. Note the time and day she made the comment and save it for a rainy day. She's obviously ignorant, but it's so obvious, I would just write her off as another person with her head up her ***. I wouldn't bother taking it any further at this point.
