A good friend of mine is getting 2 weeks before me. Money is so tight right now that we have nothing extra! I cant go empty handed to the wedding, but at the same time we cant afford to give anything. I already RSVP'd yes to the wedding (FH is not going)...what do I do about her gift?

Hate to encourage taking on more debt, but....charge to your credit card a gift card to the place she is registered? you're right, you cannot go empty handed, so this is all i can think of!!

Personally, I would try to scrape up a little extra something for her gift. Another option is to call her and say 'Listen, since we're getting married so close to each other, why don't we just call it even?' Then you can get her a nice frame with a card or something and she won't have to worry about getting you a gift either.

Oh, that makes a difference...
Can you give her a card and then send a check after your wedding?

Re: A good friend
buy a nice photo album (doesn't have to be an expensive one, just nice) and take pictures throughout the nice (personal ones, not photographer ones) and maybe have guests write personal notes to the couple, then you can compile the whole thing into a scrap book/pesonalized album for them to enjoy. you can also go back farther into their relationship and go from when they met to the weddings, etc. i've also heard of people getting the pics they took developed at a one hour photo before the wedding was over so the couple has photos (and album if you're really good) to enjoy while they're on the honeymoon.
just an idea. i'd love to get a present like that from a close friend - the thought is worth more than money to me.

I agree completely. We had some guests that didn't give us a gift and we never thought anything of it. To us, it didnt' matter.....so hopefully your friend won't mind especially if you tell her your financial situation. And being that she is getting married too, I'm sure she would understand........Just remember, weddings aren't only about gifts.......it's about friendship

Two of my work friends and I got married within 3 weeks of each other...one after another - craziness. We all talked and decided on 'no gifts' for each other, since it would have been us just exchanging money.

Re: A good friend
maybe explain to her how tight money is and ask her not bring a gift to yours either... that is tough!!

Re: A good friend
I agree on either asking her if ok to call it even other wise at least a small gift like a frame or an album at the very least.. I wouldn't go empty-handed unless you've agreed ahead of time.
