What's your opinions on a wedding on Labor Day? The problem is we like the place, but once again don't meet the f%$king minimum for even a Sunday night. Pretty much the only way it could happen at all is if I do it on that day. I don't know people's attitudes towards that day. So I wanted some feedback.

Re: A Labor Day wedding...
The tuesday 9/7 is the start of off peak travel of labor day weekend. They are charging a holiday rate for the sunday. Try to argue that,,,,one place we saw was going to, but we said no one else was and they waived it. (still did not book with them though) Are you looking for this of next year?

100, but out of 17 places we have been, this is only one of the ones we like a lot.

I think b/c so many people go away that weekend you may have a lot of No's unfortunately.
Maybe true, but personally I never knew anybody who went away for Labor Day. Nor does anyone I've asked about it thus far.
I guess I can just say F the people who don't want to come, I don't need them in my life anyway.

Not to be negative but you cant say F the people who dont want to come b/c then what are you going to do if you dont even meet the minimum.. you only have 100 people as it is... you dont want to wind up paying for plates no one is eating

Re: A Labor Day wedding...
100, does that include your vendors? They count as plates too. There are so many halls where 100 is the minimum.
I think I might have missed information.
Where are you looking, and is it for this year?
For 100 and under, try miller inn/cottege (whatever the name is) watermill SMCC Meadow Club Beach Club Estate 3 Village inn Riviera

I've visited halls that I thought would fit my taste. Not necessarily for their limits. I know there are plenty of halls that would work, but it so happens we don't like them. Such is the case with Jericho Terrace. We need 130 for the bigger room, and they won't budge. The smaller 100 min room is very small, and in the basement essentially.
It is for 2005.
miller inn/cottege (I assume you mean the smaller of the 2 rooms. the problem is it has no cocktail hour. So they told me it would have to be in the ssame room for both. No thanks)
watermill (FW doesn't care for it, cousins wedding was there)
SMCC (Have not been, but my mother was and said it's not along the lines of places we've liked so far)
Meadow Club (been there, just ok imo)
Beach Club Estate (heard bad stuff about WOTL and they are owned by the same people)
3 Village inn (Have not been)
Riviera (Lady was one of the rudest..make that the rudest person I dealt with...it's a long story) --- It's not that we think there are no places for 100 min. The problem is we don't usually like the places we see. Especially because the rooms are small.

Re: A Labor Day wedding...
Instead of looking for the right hall with the right minimum why dont you have it during the summer and rent a location where you can set up a tent or something so you can make it really nice and it dosent matter the min. of people. You DEFINITLY want it at a catering hall? If its such a problem there definitly are other options!

Yeah, I really do want it at a hall. Just something about the tent thing that doesn't sit right with me.

mee too, that is why when we had minimum problems, we opted it out. --------------------------------------- You did not answer if the 100 includes your vendors. They have to eat too, and most halls let them count as heads towards your minimum. Photo, video, DJ, MC, assistants, etc.

Re: A Labor Day wedding...
I'd say if you really like it that much then do it! Your family & friends will be there.
What place is it?
BTW, did you check out The Beach Club Estate in Ronkonkoma? We had our wedding there & loved it!!!!!! We only had to guar. 80 for a Sun. daytime wedding. It is right on the lake. They said it would be a minimum of 100 for Saturday night.

Re: A Labor Day wedding...
i think that if you two are having such a hard time finding a hall that you like and you found one that you like - you need to forget about the other people and focus on the two of you!! Do what makes you happy!! and if you can get this place that you both like....and it happens to be on a day that might be inconvenient for some people......go with what YOU want. It's your wedding and it's your decision. As long as you let people know far enough in advance.....they can arrange their plans to be with you! And Labor Day is not a huge holiday where people go away - it's usually a BBQ kind of day that people spend with their family anyway! I think this is the perfect opportunity for you and your bride!!! Good luck to the two of you!!!!

Re: A Labor Day wedding...
Where are you thinking of having now? (This may have been posted and I might have missed it)
First off, I am getting married in July on a Sunday night 6-11. I don't think that is a big deal- so many people stay up later than that and get up to go to work on Sunday!
Labor Day Weekend really isn't such a bad deal- what do people really do anyway- go to a BBQ? I think as long as you send out STDs, you will have no problem having your wedding that day.

Re: A Labor Day wedding...
Mr. Hostility
Don't do it on labor day weekend!!!!
Nor Labor Day!!!!
Do you know how many comments I got about people traveling for that particular weekend, it was disguisting!!!!!!!!!!
I was going to pick 9/4/04--- But, I changed my mind because my dog passed away that same week.
But, you have to do what you want, if people don't make it....o well...screw them, do what makes you happy!!!!!

Re: A Labor Day wedding...
I'm not worried about driving, as everyone lives relatively close to us. The party would be over at 11, so most traffic would be light at the end.
It all comes down to having it where we like, really, IMO. There are places I could settle, but this place was the best so far.
