A Labor Day wedding...

Original post by MrHostility

What's your opinions on a wedding on Labor Day? The problem is we like the place, but once again don't meet the f%$king minimum for even a Sunday night. Pretty much the only way it could happen at all is if I do it on that day. I don't know people's attitudes towards that day. So I wanted some feedback.

Here's a suggestion if you loved the place - did you ask about the sunday of the holiday. my fiance and i are getting married the sunday of memorial day at the harbour club in huntington.

Since it was a sunday, we got sunday prices and only had to guarantee 100 people (we had the same problem with people wanting 150 for a sat night) and people will have the next day off.

its still a holiday weekend - but our guest list is only close friends and family and also we are sending out save the dates so people know it way in advance

The general consensus I've gotten so far has been very positive. My older brother said he doesn't know many people who do things that weekend, otehr than maybe a BBQ. He even went on to say he'd rather it be that day than a Sunday.

Most people here have been supportive, and agree it might actually be nice to have something special to do on the day. Also that the weather is very nice that time of year, not too hot or cold.

Love to hear more opinions.

I think it's like any other day - the people that care about you will be there. Plus for some out of towners it may be easier since they won't have to take time off work.

There are three SACRED dyas in the year...
1. Thanksgiving
2. Christmas..
and
3. Super Bowl Sunday.

Ok.. well maybe 2.

Anything else is open game.

My brother is getting married on Labor Day weekend this year - I can't wait! I think it 's great and gives you an extra day to recover! DEfinitely send save the dates!

I also have weddings Memorial Day and Columbus Days weekends-that's a little annoying since all my holidays are booked but that's the way it goes.....

I say do it!...it's true most people just end up having a barbeque that day anyway...

I would rather go to a wedding

and yes, the people who really care about the both of you will be there regardless of what day it falls on..

lots of luck!

I'd go too, but I am biased, my wedding's on a tuesday. so I'm all about 'weird' dates to have a wedding. They will make sure they can be there if they care about you...like everyone said.

Like I always say, those who matter most, WILL BE THERE & with no excuses!!!!

I am getting married this year, on the sunday of Labor Day weekend, since it's like a saturday, and gives my out-of-staters, time to get here.

I don't see any difference with it being on Labor Day it's self, than it being on a sunday. I think people would make just as much comments with it on labor day as they would if it was a sunday, having work the next day. I would definetly send STDs, so they don't plan BBQ, or vacation.

Re: A Labor Day wedding...

I am a Labor Day bride, got married the Saturday of Labor Day weekend. We did the long weekend wedding as my ILs are from out of town, and we wanted to give them time to travel. Honestly, we had people who were complaining about us getting married over Labor Day-but no one ever said it to our face, it was mostly venting to other friends. And BTW, none of these people had other plans. They are just really whiny people

We had very few declines, and only a few noshows, and those were not due to the timing. Send STDs early, spread the word, and enjoy your day.

My wedding day is Sunday Labor day weekend and am pleased with my choice because a lot of OOT guests can stay over b/c they have the next day off.

I think that if the person loves you an wants to be wih you on your wedding day they will make - no matter what day.

Good Luck

I'd say 90% of my invitees would come. There are say 10% who might not, given the date. I know my relatives will all come, and my close friends. It's the fringe people I wonder about.

Re: A Labor Day wedding...

I went to a night wedding on Labor Day once. It was OK, it would have been better if it was an afternoon wedding though (IMO). No one was looking to go to work on Tuesday morning after that. But we danced and had fun!
You have to do what's best for you and your family and it'll work out. They always do!

I thought about the work day thing. But the same problem exists on Sunday night as well. I can't have a day wedding, it's just not me.

Re: A Labor Day wedding...

You are right about that one. It is the same as a Sunday night wedding. I just think that because it was Monday Night everyone was a little screwed up. But it is in essence the same soooo I'd say go for it

I think it's just another day!! I have had no complaints so far, my church is at 12:30 and my cocktail is 4-5 and the reception is 5-9. Everyone is so excited... it's great we have 2 days off before to prepare, and i get paid for the holiday so we actually are getting married on Labor Day!! it's fantastic... alot of vendors were open and discounted becuase it was a MONDAY!! I wish you best of luck and if you need any tips let me know.

Why don't you have it on the sunday of labor day weekend???

MrHostility Posted:

Re: A Labor Day wedding...

That's not being offered at a lower minimum. Plus I think it's gone already. That would essentially be perfect. At least travel for the honeymoon will be cheap right after, since it's mid-week.

I think b/c so many people go away that weekend you may have a lot of No's unfortunately.
