A-Line dress or BallGown

Original post by May05Bride

I just can't decide, should I wear a ball gown wedding dress or an A-Line?
Do I want to be elegant or princess-like?

I am getting married at Leonards. I am skinny and people say ballgown would look nice - I don't have a thin waiste so A Line may look poll-like. What do you guys think?
I really need your help, I was thinking about this for months now!

I'm only 5 feet tall and 108 pounds and they told me that I should't wear ballgown because I'm 'too small' I got ballgown anyway because I wanted to look like Cinderella. Get what you love but I would try them both on just in case.

I had an A line dress which really flattered my hips, lol and I felt totally like a Princess

Back to you, I agree with the others - you really have to just try them on, you will know when the dress is YOU. You'll feel like a princess whether it's a-line or ball gown.

Since you're small, I voted Ballgown, although you may look just as good or better in Aline.
Just remember this, you make the dress, it doesn't make you

Good luck in whatever you decide

PS. A-line is still Princessy, more like 'Juliet' type princess, while ballgown is more like 'Cinderella' princess. No matter what, you still win

Ballgown all the way !!!! I figure, what other day of my life can I walk around in a huge ballgown with a tiara on and not look like a big jerk? I can wear an a-line dress any day !!

I am only 5 feet also so I understand about not wanting to look like an 'inverted mushroom' in the dress but the way I figure it is I'm 5 feet, nothings going to change that no matter what dress I put on. No A-line is going to make me look 5'9'
If the dress looks right and feels right, then go for it! I do like how light the A-lines can be though too!

Mine is a ballgown and boy, do I feel like a princess!!
Of course my FI told me he like the sheath look (he loves contemporary style) I told him, he is going to be really surprised on May 16!

I am an old lady, I went ball gown. My niece says it has too much 'poof'. But I feel like princess and I love it.

I will say that the answer really depends on your body type, and what looks most flattering. I already know I will look better in an A Line dress. I will likely try on both, but go with an A Line...

I could have sworn I was going to get an A line gown but I ended up with ballgown.

I'm skinny too and went with an A line. I felt like ball gowns swallowed me up, but more importantly, they just weren't 'me.' Try on both styles, note how well they flatter your body type (everyone is different), and how they make you feel. You'll make the right decision!

Definitely try them on (and on and on and on) The other thing to remember is that you can broadly generalize them into A-line or ball gown but this doesn't begin to describe the tons of different variations within these. Ultimately, you have to go with what looks best and what goes with the style of your wedding.

I can't wait to go and trying them on some more! I found that there is a St. Pucci trunk show on Jan 23-26, so this will be a great time to get myself knee deep in ballgowns! And ofcourse, I will make sure to have A-Line to try on as well.
