I just can't decide, should I wear a ball gown wedding dress or an A-Line? Do I want to be elegant or princess-like?
I am getting married at Leonards. I am skinny and people say ballgown would look nice - I don't have a thin waiste so A Line may look poll-like. What do you guys think? I really need your help, I was thinking about this for months now!

Re: A-Line dress or BallGown
i think you have lots of time to try on lots of dresses to see which style grabs you. i thought i wanted an aline, but i feel i'm leaning heavily towards ball now that i've tried some on. you just never know until you try.

You have to try them on first. Once you do, the right dress - be it A line, ballgown, or even something completely different - will 'speak' to you. (It will tell you that you look beautiful!)

It's funny because they say that the a-line is the most flattering to the most body types but I completely disagree with that. I've seen so many brides in A-line gowns and think to myself, 'nice, but she could have found something way more flattering'.
I'm a ball gown princess all the way, but that doesn't mean I don't try on a-lines. You have to try on all dress types because you never know which one will be the one!! Good luck and have fun!

You can't really make a decision this way. A wedding gown is a creature unlike any other piece of clothing you've ever worn. It is incredibly deceptive - what looks like a beauty in magazines and on the hanger is a completely different beast once you get it on...so go and try them both on and then you can make the right decision.

Have you tried on gowns yet? I think you should totally try on all dif types of dress and see what you like best ...
Another thing.. No matter what, you will look and feel like a princess on your wedding day..

Re: A-Line dress or BallGown
I agree, try on all types - that's what I did. I originally started and only wanted A-line (I tried many on at RK Bridal, in NYC) and I liked how they looked on me. But then I tried on Ball Gowns and I fell in love with them. I loved how they looked. And so, I ordered a Ball Gown, from Bridal Reflections, in Carle Place.
Good Luck

try them on....take someone with you...I had originally wanted ball gown, but ended up with an empire waist A-line because it looked so much better on me..

Re: A-Line dress or BallGown
I did try on gowns, but mostly Ball Gowns because the assistent told me I would look best in those. I will definately try on all different types.
It just seems like A Line is more elegant ballgown is more Princessy. So I guess the big question is , do I want elegant or princess? Or do I want to be an elegant princess ?

Maybride you need to get down to the stores and try them both on as the girls said. Then decide from there

OMG, I am having the same debate with myself ... I just don't know what 'look' I want! The thing that I've heard the most though from people already married is you do it once and if they could do it again, they'd have more POOF. You can be elegant anytime in any kind of dress ... how many opportunities do you actually get to wear a ballgown and be a princess (OK, QUEEN! )??? I don't know, it's what I've been debating!

Definitely try them on! I went in there and said A-line all the way, since I'm short and BallGown would look bad on me, but I tried on a BallGown as a joke, and I loved it!!!! You just never know!

That is so funny.. that is what I am debating about as well! My gown assistent told me you can only wear a ballgown once in your lifetime and that is for the wedding. Never again will you wear one. On the other hand, as my FI pointed out, is that a good reason to wear one?

I absolutely agree with above posts on trying on a variety of dresses yourself and seeing what you feel best in.
For me, A-line was the way to go because I felt that my 5'1' self looked like an inverted mushroom in ballgowns; also, I liked the relative lightness of A-lines.

Re: A-Line dress or BallGown
I went through the same thing!
I decided that this was a once in a lifetime event, and I needed a once in a life time gown. I will have plenty of opportunities in my life to look elegant. I probably won't be able to get away with wearing 25 yards of tulle ever again!
But really, the right dress will speak to you. Try them on!

This was a big factor for me to go Ballgown too. If you look and feel right in a ballgown then I'd say go for it.

Re: A-Line dress or BallGown
OMG, I AM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM! EVERYONE TELLS ME TO TO WITH A-LINE BECAUSE I AM ONLY FIVE FEET, 113 POUNDS. I MEAN, I DONT WANT TO LOOK LIKE A BIG MARSHMELLOW OR ANYTHING, BUT I HAVE ALWAYS \ DREAMED OF A NICE BALL GOWN (NOTHING TOO BIG) BUT I GUESS I WILL ALSO TRY ON EVERY KIND OF DRESS OUT THERE AND SEE WHICH ONE IS THE BEST. I THINK YOU SHOULD ALSO. BESIDES YOU NEVER KNOW , MAYBE YOU WILL LOVE A DIFFERENT KIND OF DRESS AND IT IS SO MUCH FUN TRYING ON ALL THOSE DRESSES

Re: A-Line dress or BallGown
my gown is a-line, but I think like others have mentioned your best bet is to try them on. You can't go based on what's best for everyone else.
