FH called me to tell me today that his cousin is having their baby's first birthday party at Russo's next month...
I know this is a little ridiculous... and I'm not angry because they have a right to do whatever they want... but for 5+ years that I've been with FH, not one family function was held at Russo's... they live in Brooklyn, there are 39848720874987 places to have a first birthday party...
I'm just a little annoyed because I really wanted Russo's to be something different for people coming to the wedding.. and yeah, I know it's not a wedding, and I know it's a year and half til our wedding anyway... I know all that.. but it still made me roll my eyes a little bit.
Whatever. At least I get to eat at Russo's, though.

That's a little... ummm.... over the top for a first birthday, JMHO! But look at it this way, you get to experience the place and the food so you'll know better of what you MUST have and what you should avoid!

LOL, definitely not. It's a done deal.
What annoys me most is that... it's a first birthday. Not a shower, not even a christening... who does that?
This was one of the reasons I didn't want to bok Russo's... cause I know a lot of his family has been there before... but years and years ago, so his argument was... 'but no one's been there in forever!'
Nothing I can do about it except complain to anyone who will listen who isn't in FH's family, so thanks ladies!

Do not stress to much..it's annoying but no one will even remember that Birthday party by the time your wedding rolls around
On a personal note I never understand people who have kids birthdays at catering halls..go someplace the child might enjoy since the party is for them

I do agree that Russo's is a little much for a birthday...but you do get to test out your RH and see what things you like and don't like and you can possibly have them changed for your wedding.

Russo's is a bit much for a 1st birthday, but at least it's happening now WAY before your wedding!!! I expect a full review of how our fabulous RH did at hosting this baby shindig.

Eh, I don't think it's unreasonable. I'd be annoyed, too! What a waste of money. The kid can't even eat the food. They won't even remember if they had a first birthday party or not, let alone where it was!
ETA: Maybe it will actually get people more amped up for your wedding!

don't worry...your day will be GRAND!
look on the bright side, if the party is good there people will be that much more excited to attend again for your day

Yeah, I'd be annoyed too!!! What room are they having it in? People can be sooooo funny. My favorite are those who say 'oh, everyone gets married at Russo's!' Oh yeah, when was the last wedding you attended at Russo's?!!! Turns out it was like 10 years ago!!! Pisses me off everytime!

Is it in the same room as your wedding? If not, maybe they will still be surprised and even more excited after they taste the amazing food! I think you have every right to be annoyed though, I would be too!

Well look at it this way...FH is a high school teacher and his school's prom is at Russo's every year (I get to go to Russo's guaranteed every year...how awesome is that? lol) Well, the only times I had ever been to Russo's was for these proms for 2 or 3 years until my best friend had her wedding there last fall....and let me say it was a completely different experience! I mean I knew the food would be delicious, but a Russo's wedding is just a cut above any other party there. So I agree with other posters: this party will just get everyone more psyched for your wedding since it will give them just a little taste of what to look forward to!
But, I'm with ya girl. I would be a little annoyed too!

I hear ya - i would be annoyed. Every woman wants there wedding to be a moment that is different and then b/c of that it's really special. Russo's was the place for your wedding and that was that!
TOTALLY over the top for a child's first birthday!
But like other brides have said the experience for your wedding will put that b-day party to shame lol (poor kid) but you have every right to vent a little and be upset.

That is a little annoying.... and a bit weird for a 1st birthday party...
but it's true that this is a way for you to taste the food, see the service first hand and get a better idea of what you would like to do for your wedding.
