A little annoyed...

Original post by JLWSJC

FH called me to tell me today that his cousin is having their baby's first birthday party at Russo's next month...

I know this is a little ridiculous... and I'm not angry because they have a right to do whatever they want... but for 5+ years that I've been with FH, not one family function was held at Russo's... they live in Brooklyn, there are 39848720874987 places to have a first birthday party...

I'm just a little annoyed because I really wanted Russo's to be something different for people coming to the wedding.. and yeah, I know it's not a wedding, and I know it's a year and half til our wedding anyway... I know all that.. but it still made me roll my eyes a little bit.

Whatever. At least I get to eat at Russo's, though.

That would totally be annoying...they're stealing your thunder! I agree with everyone else that it is too much for a 1st bday party...but what can you do??? I would just relax and have a great time:)

what's with the 1st birthday parties at Russos? I know 2 other people who have done that. One of my sorority sisters has had a 1st bday party there for each of her 4 kids!

I wouldn't stress it. A baby's party is nowhere the same as a wedding.

honestly a lot of people do that I remembered spending $7000 on my daughter's first bday but it wasn't held @ Russo's it was held @ Dante Caterers in Queens which was not bad at all being that I used to live in Queens...Russo's is a beautiful place my prom was held there and I enjoyed every bit of it! Good luck and don't get too stressed out by the time your wedding comes people in you family would have forgotten.

I don't think you should get too stressed over this.

My FH sister got married at Russo's in July of '08 and when she had the baby in '09 she had the baby's christening at Russo's.

When I tell you she shopped around in Brooklyn for places to have the party - she SHOPPED around!!!

alot of places charge Russo's prices and it doesn't make sense to have a party somewhere else when you don't get the same quality as Russo's.

Also, the rooms for regular parties/christenings are upstairs and much smaller and look nothing lkike the main rooms downstairs where you will have your wedding. the upstairs rooms are much smaller and really can't hold more than 100-120 comfortably.

don't worry, no one will remember this room - its so far away from your wedding.
I would NOT suggest asking your FH to talk to his cousin to change the venue - its not your place to do so and ultimately could create an unnecessary rift in the family over a minor thing.

My problem with it is though that in 5+ years, they've had a party for SOMETHING like every 4 months... and never has it been an issue to find a place (2 30th birthdays, bridal shower, baby shower, rehearsal dinner, baby shower, christening... and more...) until we anounced we were getting married at Russo's. Seriously, they could have had a first birthday in their house and had it catered, I personally feel like that's more appropriate, but like I said, I'll get over it. I just need to complain about it.

Re: A little annoyed...

more and more, birthday parties are becoming these huge overblown events.
while iw as growing up - we always had birthday parties at home and if it was super important it was catered or something.
Times have changed and now having a reception like birthday party is the 'in' thing to do

You are totally justified in feeling the way you do, I would be upset. But your wedding is going to be way, way better!!!! I'm sure their party will have a totally different feel.

I don't think you should worry, these places don't go all out for kids parties the way they do for weddings. It'll just be a nice chance for you to sample the food there :)

I would be annoyed to! It is a slightly insane for a 1st birthday party butttttt it will be so different from the way a wedding is done there. People won't even recognize that it is the same place when it is set for a wedding. I mean, I don't think the baby will be coming up in a glass elevator lol

I think that you have every right to be annoyed. I would feel the same way.
