so fh and i went to check out the Woodlands this saturday since we were in the area. We wanted to get an idea what the grounds will look like in April.
i know I am getting married in spring not summer, but I was disappointed that there was like nothing blooming yet...the beautiful grounds are a huge reason why I booked the Woodlands.
fh was trying to reassure me bc a.) its been a really mild spring (althought next year could be as well) and b.) we are getting married 2 weeks later ( a year from now) than when we were there..and he says a lot can bloom in 2 weeks.
i know in the scheme of things this isn't what matters the most for our wedding day...but i am really starting to think we should have set a date for later in the spring/summer

Aww don't worry! Maybe you should go back April 30 and see exactly what is in bloom. I think alot can be in bloom between now and then! Just think how many less flowers were in bloom at the beginning of april, 2 weeks ago, until now! Huge difference!

I meant to add, Either way though, the Woodlands is so beautiful, I almost booked there myself (my friend and bridesmaid is getting married there this summer which is the reason I didn't). Your wedding will be beautiful regardless!

We were originally booked for May 22, 2010 and moved our date to July because last year we visited the swan club in May and there were hardly any flowers blooming. I loved my day but I felt I needed to change the date to get some flowers in bloom.

I had planned on an April 10th wedding date, but the Swan club informed me that the tulips don't bloom until late in April and that depends on how warm it is. So I changed my date to June for the same reason, I wanted flowers in bloom.

Re: a little disappointed
i dont even care about flowers as much as the trees! The whole drive down the road to the mansion is lined with trees and it doesnt look at pretty with everything bare. plus the back area where the ceremony would be had a lot of bare trees also...lets hope next April is super warm so everything is in full blooom

Re: a little disappointed
My sister got married on April 28th... She booked Old Westbury Gardens for her pictures and there was NOTHING in bloom, which was disappointing because the flowers was the reason she wanted her photos there. I don't think there will be too many flowers for your wedding date.

I'm not too sure that there will be much blooming in april but then again you never know. I went to CW Post for my undergrad and most of the trees and flowers began to bloom around the second week in May. Are you getting married in the evening? Possibly they can put lights or something on the trees if they haven't bloomed yet....or you can change your date if possible if it really bothers you.

There is hope! So many trees outside my building bloomed over the weekend and they all look so beautiful plus, there is still sometime in between today and your date. I am sure it will look beautiful in time for your wedding!

I went to visit the Woodlands this weekend too! I went with my FH's family so they could see the place. The ballroom looked really great all set up and there were def a lot full looking trees on the back patio over looking the golf course. The natural lighting in the room looked really great.
Don't be disappointed! It is beautiful no matter what!

I went to the Woodlands this past weekend (and we decided to book!) but even now things are starting to get green(er). I would say go back in a few weeks like everyone has been saying and see if things look better to you. If not, I'm sure they still have some later dates you could take instead. I'm sure either way everything will be gorgeous, I was dead set on having my wedding at The Vanderbilt but when I walked into the Woodlands I changed my mind within the first 5 minutes. Like someone else mentioned, if your photographer is good, the shots will be good no matter what!

Aaawww don't worry. You can never predict these things. And your FH is right.. .a lot can happen in 2 weeks. Overnight Magnolias and Cherry Blossoms are bursting out. Go back in 2 weeks... it should be better.

Re: a little disappointed
wow we have new woodlands girls!
i agree with the other girls to check back in 2 weeks because now is the time that everything's popping up, especially with this crazy rain.
regardless, the place is gorgeous and the pictures are going to come out great. Even in the winter (which is the only time ive seen it) the woodlands is stunning.
