my mother basically told me i had non practical stuff on my registry and that people made comments. i registered at crate and barrel and she said my dishes were too expensive and i had too many glasses and there were no practical things on there.
i was intending to register at macys for appliances and stuff but i just did not have the time.
shes giving me good advice but her approach is a little nasty sometimes.
anyone else have people commenting on their registries? i dont know why i am taking this so personally.

Re: a little embarrassed
Register for what YOU want. No one is saying anything...It is probably just your mother trying to get her point across. I register for things I wanted that weren't practical...that is part of the fun of registering.

Don't be embarrassed. Mom's are just from a different generation, and they did things differnetly back then. You didn't do anything wrong.

Re: a little embarrassed
I had people make comments about things as well as I have made comments about others registries (a $700 espresso machine????? )
Don't worry, you still have time to change and add things.

I agree! My FH registered for items that I even thought were ridiculous, but he said people don't have to buy it if they don't want to. He said those were the items he wanted on his 'wish list'.

people will comment no matter what you do.
It's hard to hear, but don't take it personally. You can't win in situations like this, especially with moms.
You may want to add a few 'practical' things here and there, and make sure there is a big range of prices - some people can only afford a 40 dollar shower gift.

My mom said basically the same thing....but if I want a pan I'll go any buy one....I don't want anyone buying me something practical! One of my BM's told me...'you know I didn't get half of the stuff I registered for...'
I say ignore them and continue on your course. If it's too expensive, then they shouldn't buy it. You're not finished yet...they should hold their comments and their credit cards, until YOU are ready!

Re: a little embarrassed
I know how you feel. If anything I did the opposite of you. The items I picked were too 'inexpensive' like wooden spoons and small kitchen utensils. I was also embarrassed. I didn't know what to do because I've been living w/FH for almost 5 years and we have everything already. It's funny because my first registry at Linens N Things had all those small things and no one bought one thing and my shower is this Saturday !! I guess my mom was right that no one would want to give me a wooden spoon. So what I did was I created a new registry at Bed Bath and Beyond on line and added a lot of stuff that way. Then we just took a ride one night and shopped for about an hour. It saved us a lot of time. Good Luck!

Re: a little embarrassed
i had people complaining to me all the time
'there's hardly anything on your registry, you better add on'
'you're only registered at one place! Why don't you register somewhere else?'

Pay no mind to your mother's comments. Just smile and nod. That's the approach I've taken to when people make comments I don't agree with or feel are unnecessary. You registered for things that YOU want, and no one has any right to comment on that or tell your otherwise. It's not a requirement that someone purchase something off of there, it's a wish list. If people don't want to spend the money or purchase things off of there, they won't!

Re: a little embarrassed
Thats how moms are - I don't know of any comments regarding my registry, except for my sister who said we registered for too much, but we registered for items that were inexpensive (except my fine china) and things that we needed - we're starting with nothing and we registered for alot because we wanted people to have alot of choices and we had our engagement party, the shower is coming up, and the wedding itself, as well as 140 some odd guests.
My mom drives me crazy because she looks at what we registered for - and then buys us something totally different because she likes it etter than what we registered for and she was the one that forced us to register
Ignore the comments - you can't make everyone happy - register for what YOU want and like, your the one that has to live with it.
And you know what - people will suprise - of everything I registered for all of my expensive items were purchased the inexpensive items have not been purchased- my china set is almost complete and all we had was the engagement party so far.

first of all, I cannot believe people would make comments to your mom - that is so rude, keep it to themselves. Don't feel embarrassed, it's your day, not theirs. If it's too pricy for them, they can buy you something else.

Re: a little embarrassed
Sorry mine was long - but I did think of a complaint I've heard quite a bit! We didn't register for a coffee maker/pot/cups - FH and I don't drink coffee so we didnt think we needed it but people keep saying that when they come over as guests they expect coffee to be available (a legitimate expectation in my opinion) So I just tell everyone I will use whatever coffee maker they prefer and if they have a particular one in mind i will add it to the registry!
Sorry long again- i'm just a long winded person

Tell her you didn't dinish registering. Don't forget it IS a different generation. We one the whole spend a lot less time in the kitchen than our moms did (speaking in general terms..no flaming please). Our generation is more fast food this, microwave that..so the high tech mixer may not be neccesary. You may be more interested in hvaing great dishes for your parties.
It's about what YOU and your FH will want and need. Maybe she has some suggestions on things you can add that you will need but dont realize it. you can ask for that advice, but don't worry about it.
On my registry the most expensive stuff has been bought already. I have 4 place settings ($100 each), a $160 platter, etc etc... People will want to buy gifts in different price ranges..and even if there is a big ticket item on there that may be PERFECT for a group of firneds, co workers or family memebers who all want to chip in. If you have 15 people at your office and they all chip in $20, there's that $300 espresso machine.
JUst make sure you're putting tings that you'll really want/need and that all price ranges are covered.
Don't worry about it!

You should register for the Krups that I believe all stores carry. I was at B,B&B a few weeks ago and the price is down to $40! I have this coffee maker now and it makes an awesome pot of coffee!! And for $40? well worth it! JMO
