Register for what YOU WANT! It's your gifts, not anyone elses. My mom made a comment to me last weekend that I didn't register for enough towels
I have a LOT of towels that I buy when I see on sale, I am not starting off with nothing.
Anyhow, just my $.02

my mother basically told me i had non practical stuff on my registry and that people made comments. i registered at crate and barrel and she said my dishes were too expensive and i had too many glasses and there were no practical things on there.
i was intending to register at macys for appliances and stuff but i just did not have the time.
shes giving me good advice but her approach is a little nasty sometimes.
anyone else have people commenting on their registries? i dont know why i am taking this so personally.
No one has the right to comment on YOUR items! How do they know what YOU need and or what YOU want! As far as being dishes being too expensive- then DONT BUY THEM- I would register for an array of items in all ranges BUT if you want expensive dishes thats NO ONE's business but yours

You should register for the Krups that I believe all stores carry. I was at B,B&B a few weeks ago and the price is down to $40! I have this coffee maker now and it makes an awesome pot of coffee!! And for $40? well worth it! JMO
Thanks I'm going to look for that!!!

Re: a little embarrassed
dont worry at all!!! i heard comments too, we had things that were too 'little'. we are simple people and we need EVERYTHING for our home (currently buying my grandfathers house.) We opted not to put fine china on our registry because i would rather get everything else instead of 12 place settings that we would use 2 times a year or so. FH wanted to put a $2000 play station chair on there We still have to add things, we havent put our bedding on there yet, or towels because at the time we didnt know where we would be living, what colors we would have etc. People are going to have a comment no matter what you do, just smile and thank them for the 'advice'. In the end we will end up putting several things on our registry that we dont care if people buy it or not, because we will get a discount on it after the wedding and we will purchase it ourselves!

Re: a little embarrassed
it is weird..... i registered at Tiffany's and i am sure some people on his side (i know they did) probably said who does she think she is but i was asked by my side to register there so ...... i think it depends on your crowd you know your people
don't be surprised....maybe they are JEALOUS

Re: a little embarrassed
People thought there was a problem with my registry b/c there weren't the usual things. FH and I have lived together for 2 years and we bought all new stuff when we moved in together. So we don't really need anything so we registered for China, crystal, silver and expensive pots and pans. I knew they may be a little expensive but that's what I wanted so I went for it and boy am I happy. Do what you want and not what other people think you should do. You have to live with them! If they think things are too expensive them they'll get something else.

Who cares...they don't have to buy it for you. And you usually get 10% off when you finish your registry anyway. I would register at Best Buy if I could just to get the discount. As long as you put a variety of prices for everyone there's nothing to worry about. There's nothing wrong with registering for some nice stuff.

Re: a little embarrassed
Do what you want!!!!! I first registered at Macy's and I had some people in DH's family sooo upset that I didn't register at Fortunoff, so I did. Everyone registers at Fortunoff
If no one buys you anything on it you will get it discounted after the wedding anyway and then you can use all your wedding money to buy it

Re: a little embarrassed
oh yes! And, Ironically, the people who said, 'How come no one buys blenders, or irons, or the things that couples REALLY need?' were the SAME people who bought my $100 Lenox figurine, etc. for my shower gifts....
Believe me, everyone is a critic and they will get over it!!!

Re: a little embarrassed
You registered for things you wanted right? Well dont be embarassed, if people cant afford or dont want to purchase off the registery they will pick out their own stuff to give you but I know plenty of people who picked out outrageous things and actually got them. FH's cousin got married last july and registered at Fortunoff for a $700 wine cooler which to me was alittle out there but it was the first thing to go and it wasnt bought by family it was a combo gift by people at her job. Stick with what you want. FH told me that when we register he plans on putting yard furniture and a barbque, etc. We dont even have a yard because we dont have a house, we live with the inlaws but he wants to be prepared he says we have plenty of dishes

Re: a little embarrassed
Well I wanted to register for a Waterford Shamrock which was a little expensive (my FI and I are both Irish ) at Fortunoff AND MY FI told me NO WAY! Because he was afraid what people will think...well I won't be there holding a gun to their head to make them buy it..if people want to buy stuff they will.

Re: a little embarrassed
For some reason with weddings people are so quick to give unsolicited advice- it is crazy to me!!
A friend of mine (an LIW bride herself in 02!!)gave me great advice: just say 'Thanks for the tip, I'll take it into consideration'...and forget what they told you!!
Register for whatever you want- if people don't like it, CASH always works!!
Edited for spelling

Re: a little embarrassed
Argh, we totally got registry flack! We had the opposite problem and registered for too many practical things -- knives, measuring cups, salad spinner, etc. My aunt even said, 'I'm not buying you a set of measuring cups; when cousin x got married I got her a place setting.' Mind you this was for engagement presents and she had ASKED US where we were registered! ANd she said this to my face! I wanted to say, 'Listen, you don't HAVE to buy me anything! And if you don't like what's on my registry -- BE CREATIVE!!'
