A little premature, but Superbowl party question?

Hi.

My DH is toying with the idea of having a Superbowl party at our place. I know this is not until february, but I am always thinking ahead of time.

Potentially we could have 15-20 people.

My question is am I expected to cook a full meal or do I go the ordering out route-

Heros, pizza etc. Also, what kind of snacks?

If it was just guys it would be a no brainer, order dominoes and call it a day. however I have a feeling it will be mixed company and women are more particular about what they will eat.

Tell me what you guys usually do please.

i went to a great party a few years ago.
My DH's boss had it at his house.

He had a little girl back then and she was very friendly so it was fun. She didnt even distract us from the game!! But I think her being there kept it a little 'cleaner' if you get my drift.

The foods were light and snack like. veggie platter, finger foods such as chicken and sandwiches, chips of all sorts of choices and salsa, dips and cheese, crackers and quesadillas (spelling). She had some shrimp cocktail out and some pasta salads too. There were cokes mostly and beers for those who wanted it. Other than the quesadillas nothing was hot and we brought brownies and others brought cookies, cakes, cupcakes and such.

Over all it was great.

Just some ideas.

PS: Im not a guy but im BIG on my football. Last few years Superbowls haven't warranted a party, but if there was one, I usually spend the whole time BSing or watching the game, not real sit down and eat sort of environment. It's just part of the tradition. Scream at the TV, jump up and down and chew on grub.

X- that sounds like a great arrangement of food. Thanks for sharing.

You can also have buffalo wings.

My aunt & uncle have a Super Bowl party every year for the last 15 years. We have from soup-nuts. Usually, my aunt will get a couple of heros, order some hot food, my grandmother cooks a few things. My dad makes a Super Bowl cake and everyone usually brings wine, beer or dessert. We have alot of food because there usually is about 30-40 people at her house.

DH and I have had them in the past but last year was our biggest. IT was a success and we had tons of food..so much leftover but I always overdo everything. Plus a lot of people brought food so we had even more.

I bought a hero - actually the bagel place makes these giant bagels sandwiches. We did half american and half italian and the place threw in some sides (macaroni salad and others) and dressings and stuff. I made a pasta salad, baked ziti, and lots of picky stuff - homemade pig in the blanket, and other things (bought big boxes from costco). I also bought big tray of wings from a local bar. I set that all out on the dining room table for family style eating. I served the picky stuff first, then wings and then the rest later - maybe around half time. I put cheese, dips, chips, etc. all around the living room for the whole game.

Many of our friends brought food and desserts. Someone made awesome stuffed bread..yummy! Then we had some unusal dips and crakers and fun desserts - like football black and white like cookies.

It is all about the eating! Just have lots of goodies and don't drive yourself cooking like crazy.

PS Don't forget the beer....

I'm a fan of appetizer/finger foods...

Thanks Ladies!

I might take a cue from Niecey as well and make a Ziti, and some cold salads and then go to Costco and get other things,

We've done a few. It is mostly appetizers/finger foods and I do one main dish like a ziti or buffalo wings and get a hero and salads. Try to make it easy for yourself as well so you can enjoy the day and the game.

I would do a combination of ordering from a good/gourmet deli and making some things at home. You could serve:

pigs in a blanket
crostini
mozzerella with cherry tomatos
buffalo wings
chicken fingers
potato salad
fried chicken
grilled vegetables

Chips and salsa
brownies

beer
wine

Definately serve things that can be eaten without a knife.

Amen to that!

Oh and buy tons of napkins to clean up with.

I agree with LizD. Make it easy on yourself so you are not at the kitchen and can enjoy the game and the company. You should get a huge tub for beer. Another for soda and water.
I don't know if your friends are big on liquor but if they are, place the bottles somewhere with the chasers and cups so peeps can serve themselves. Also get LOTS of ice.
