Okay... I love, love my FMIL, but she's getting a little nuts with the wedding (more than me and my mom... LOL). She doesn't want to hurt anyones feeling with the invites... so here's the thing... she's inviting her very close friend who's home is a little full now with her 2 sons (in their 20's) and daughter and son in law. She's sending them each an invitation so the house is getting 4 invitations total. Is that nuts? I understand the daughter and husband getting their own, but why can't we do 'and family' so it'll only be two invitations.
UGH!

I have the same issue with one family. It stinks, but I think it is the 'proper' thing to do.

Re: A little ridiculous...
are the sons being invited with guests?
i think that anyone over 18 really does deserve their own invite!
i know it's ridiculous, we have so many invitations going to the same houses.... and it stinks money-wise, but i have to side with 'proper etiquette' on this one!

I've got a question about this. I agree with you and would just like to send one invite, but can you put that on the outter envelope? How are you wording it so that 'family' is there?

I have to tell you, I don't disagree with her. I feel that IF you are getting a gift from each person then they should each get an invite. If they were children then I would say ...and family. In the grand scheme of things the invitations are not going to break the bank.
If it will keep her happy and it is just this one family, I would let it slide.
I have said that alot though, and broke the bank with all the little things so...

No, they're a very close family and the boys aren't in a relationship. FH calls them Aunt and Uncle so it's more family I get the married couple, but the guys I know could care less.

Not sure... it's not a bad idea.
Forgot to mention this part... their daughter sent an invitation to my FIL's and their daughter (my FSIL) who lives at home as 'and family' and my FSIL is in her late 20's. She didn't get her own invite. We did, but we have our own home.

I have to agree with hayleyandsteve. Although ridiculous, it is proper etiquette

Re: A little ridiculous...
my FMIL is the same. She wanted me to send 20+ invitations to her family in South America that have no intention of coming here for the wedding so they feel 'included'. Still not sure if we're going to do that, it's $5+ postage!?
it may be proper ettiquette but I think it's too expensive.

we sent about 15 invitations to ecuador, so i know how you feel! i don't think that anyone will end up coming, but i think it's a nice gesture to send them the inviations because we would LOVE for them to be there. at the least, they may want the memento (i.e., your invitation)

yes....it is totally unncessary for 4 invitations to go to one house. It is proper etiquette to address it to 'The Jones Family' (unless there are people in the same house that are NOT invited) Invitations are expensive!

'Jones Family' won't confuse the mailman? I'd love to do that...just making sure

If they're in their 20's they get their own invite. if not, you may be getting a measly $100.00 for six people or however many people are in the family.
My parents have a lot of family friends that we gre w up with... all the kids got invites as did the parents. One house got 5 invites! but it's the proper thing to do...
someone posted re: the international family members getting ivntes. i sent invites to everyone overseas. granted it was $2.00 to mail them and I knew most would not be able to come, but how do i NOT sent my AUNT and uncle and first cousins an invite????

I could see how you could see it being out of control, but I have to say I agree it is the right thing to do
