A little role-reversal....I'm the BM and I have a gripe!
Original post by halloweenbride04
So FH and I are in my brother's BP (3 months before our wedding). They're having their wedding upstate where they do weddings VERY differently than we do here on LI, some of what they're planning is hard to swallow, but it's their day. After months of her changing her mind about the dress, the color, she finally commited and I now have a lovely champagne colored dress which I like. BUT here's my gripe....she and her mother are making every decision right down to what my brother and his GM will be wearing. They have chosen a white (yes white) tuxedo for my brother and ivory (yes ivory) tuxes for the GM!! FH just shrugged it off and said whatever, I just hope he doesn't expect us to keep an ivory tux clean all day. Now, my brother calls me last night to ask if I got my shoes yet, I say no and he says good xyz wants you to get white canvas sneakers....I'm like for what? and he says for the dresses, and I said absolutely NOT! Was I wrong for saying that? Come on now! I have to say she is 18, all of her BM's are under 21 and maybe they think it's cute to wear canvas sneakers with gowns but I'll be 29 at the time of the wedding and I just think it's tacky and absolutely refuse! Just had to vent....haven't even told my mother this latest tid-bit....

Your ladies are just to funny! BTW: the wedding that we're talking about is my sons and yes, this is my daughter who made the post.
We are totally upset and beside ourselves over this wedding issue. its been one thing after another. One of you ladies suggested I speak to her mom, NOT, theres no talking to or suggestions done on this affair. Its the 'MOM SHOW' Her mom is running this 'wedding' and wants to hear nothing else.
What my daughter didn't add is the reception disaster waiting to happen. Listen to this: they are planning a noon - 5 informal reception, leave to get ready for the 7pm ceremony, leave ceremony and head back over for a cake reception and music until 11 pm. No food other than the cake will be served at the 2nd reception.
We've tried to bring out to their attention that all of our family/friends will be traveling on the day of the wedding, these people who can not be able to attend at noon, will not get a piece of the roasted pig, (thats part of their menu).....See my point?
When the bride and groom does their toss thing, she is having the flowergirl and ringbearer do a toss also to all the little boys and girls...
As my daughter said, things are do so different up here its crazy. We're hoping and praying that our family and friends do travel back to Long Island laughing their butts off at us. Its an embarrassment and so very sad.
We're tired of trying to get them, expecially my son to see the right thing to do...
pray for us!

Well, it's not really your choice. I assume you would want the people in your wedding to wear what you want, right? Just wear the sneakers if that's what she wants.
Or back out of it all together.

OMG, Jeannie, I remember your post about the TWO receptions on the day of the wedding. You posted about that a while ago, didn't you???? I can't imagine there are two people in that same situation!!!
My mom is from upstate, and yes, the weddings are very different. But they are dollar-dance different, not canvas-sneaker- only-cake-at-the-evening-reception different. This is not because upstate is different, it is because your FSIL is a looney toon
I cannot wait to see the pictures. If there are a lot of cancellations, can I come????

The invitations haven't gone out yet! I'm sure when our guests see the wedding line up, they'll back out. However, we won't know whos coming and whos not, her mother refuses to do rsvp's. I'm doing them myself for our family.
I'm not sure if Jeannie did a post on the two receptions, but I know I did. I'm the mom. See how i got my name: MOM NEEDS TISSUES?....LOL....
Your more than welcome to attend if you'd like. The more the merrier!.

LOL! I want to come too!
'How DARE you get your hair done, only *I* am supposed to look pretty!'
This is the best. I'm going to say this to all my BMs just to see their jaws drop now.
Canvas sneakers: Yep, totally silly. I'd try talking to her and seeing if you can get her to change her mind to some comfy flats, but if not, we all dish it out but can't take it-- it is her wedding. The rules are the rules.

Oh, I am not reading carefully!!! I guess there are two people in the same situation - the very same situation!!!
How can they not do RSVP's???? They don't need a headcount????? This is starting to sound like something out the Bevelry Hillbillies!!

Oh my goodness-Momneedstissues: i didn't realize you were halloweenbride's mom. As I was readignher post, i was thinking- 'oh she should talk to that lady with the BBQ reeption!'
LOL!
People do things differently in different places. I guess that is something we have to accept. MY uncle's cousin's 2nd wedding was upstate & he said it wa in ''the Stuckeyville bowling alley' which I'm sure was a stretch, but I get his point. I'm sure people would come here & think things are done strangely, too.
I understand how upsetting it can be thoguh as you help your daughter plan a nice wedding & then you feel like you son won't have the opportunity to have the same thing.

Yyp, we're mother and daughter and I'm most proud of her! Shes my heart :)
The plans change from day to day and get more out of control. First it was an outdoor wedding with tents, etc. that was fine except the reception wasn't going to start till 10pm...now this. gezzz.....
its just so sad that we're all having a huge laugh at my sons expense and he just doesn't see the it. But my daughter keeps reminding me that their young (21 & 18).
I'm doing the RSVP's for our side; I need to know how many people I need to plan for my open house. And I'm doing goodie bags for the people staying at the hotel.
Its going to be a race between my daughter and myself to post pics. I wonder who will win?
