A little upset.

A little upset.

I have a fairly small extended family, only perhaps 20 people max. A few days after invites went out my aunt (dad's sister) called me, asking for directions to the hall and mentioning that she is not sure she can take a day off for July 5th.

Last night I spoke with my mom and she mentioned that my grandmother (aunts and dads mom) asked my brother how she would get to the wedding if my aunt didn't go. And then my mom mentioned that my aunt's family usually goes away for July 4th weekend to meet up with some friends.

I guess I am upset because I feel that she could have changed the plans, especially since they knew about a year ahead that we're getting married over the July 4th weekend.

and while I understand the annual vacation weekends, she is my father's sister afterall, not a distant relative or friend.

Sorry, just venting.

That's just BS sweetie..I'm so sorry to hear about that.. some people are really dumb and very selfish.. don't worry your pretty little head about it.. ;) jus think of it this way... if she plans some party that you and FH don't feel like going to, you can use the same line on her..

Alina....I'm sorry to hear your aunt is being so selfish....some people just don't see it the way we would like them to.
I totally think you are right and being that she knew when the wedding was, she should have made plans to be there....

Can someone else pick up your Grandma?

Im sorry that this is happening. What really gets me is that you are planning a wedding, trying to get everything in order and then you also have to find rides for people!!!! Dont people understand that the wedding in more than enough to plan.
When my g/f got married her boss asked her to arrange baby sitting for his kids since no children allowed at the wedding and they had no one to leave them with!! and she had to pay for it!! W T F?!!?!? Now that takes balls!!

It's really not fun when people throw dilemas at you right before your wedding. People should know better. If your aunt feels that vacationing is more important than your wedding, then it's time to stop making her important. As far as your grandmother, is there another relative that can bring her? If not, then maybe you should plan to have her stay with your parent the night before so that nobody has to break up your day to go get her.

I am not sure what to do about grandma yet.

My aunt hasn't officially RSVPed yet, so I am hoping that perhaps she changes her mind.

Otherwise, we may have to pay for an extra hotel room so that my immediate family can pick up the grandma the night before. I don't know if anyone else is coming from Phily, even though all were invited.

Oh, and we also have FH's grandfather, who drives around brooklyn, asking if someone can give him a lift for a NJ wedding. And this time, no relatives coming from Brooklyn, just friends. We may have to force him to get a regular car service if he can't drive....

Alina, I am very sorry to hear this.

People can be so selfish. I hope this all works out.
