A MOM VENT

Original post by prncssrachel

Ok, Can I just say I have HAD IT WITH MY MOTHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I emailed her some pictures of wedding dresses that I like, and she emails me back, 'They're very nice, honey, but you could never fit into anything like that.'
Who says that to their daughter???????? Everytime I want to go look at dresses, which is not often since I live 4 hours away, she says to me,'I think you have about 20lbs to lose before you even think about looking at a dress.'
I have told her to stop over and over, and she is just so awful to me when it comes to my weight. I'm not even that overweight, I am just so aggravated. She will never ever change. I knew this would happen because she's been telling me since I was 10 that I am fat, no matter how much weight I lose, there's always those 'few extra pounds' that she has to point out. I just give up.

Alina - You're TEENY! Your mom is nuts if she says you are fat.

My friend's mother has been on her about her weight since she was like, 8. And it is clear from pics of my friend as a toddler that she was always chubby (and so sweet looking), and she grew into a zaftig, curvy, voluptuous, soft brunette who I think is lovely. At age 32, her mother still berates her. Her mother is a teeny petite size 4 blonde...and my friend got her father's side of the family's genes.

It's awful and needless to say, my friend and her Mom have a very volatile relationship. I say leave your mother out of all dress decisions and tell her to mind her own business re your weight. I know it's hard to do that, but seriously - your mental well-being is at stake here. It's not fair.

Re: A MOM VENT

I thank you girls so much. I really can't begin to tell you how much it meant to me to hear your stories and advice. This has been a constant struggle since I was a child, and it was a hard turning point in my life when I realized that your parents do not always know best. I know my mother is not speaking to be cruel, but because she, herself has struggled with her weight so much, but speaking to her has never helped. I had a hard time growing up due to an eating disorder, and even counseling and therapy with my mother present has not stopped her from making comments. I guess so people never change, but it helped me more than you could know to get the support I got from all of you. Thank you so much!!!!!!
