A New Topic that came up- FH and I can't decide- HELP!!

So...our wedding is on a friday night. The cocktail hour starts at 8:30pm and the reception ends at 1:30pm

I know it is a late party. I wasn't too happy with that either. But JT told us that since it was on a friday obviously the reception is going to be started later than a normal Saturday wedding. And also we are the last cocktail hour. So I kind of got over my not being so happy and am happy now because our wedding will be the last one to start which means no distractions of other brides/grooms and wedding parties and music being heard!!

But I don't think there is a need for an after party since it ends at 1:30am. Now FH thinks we should - he is a party animal. He said we should make sure the hotel we book has a bar they can leave open for us. But by the time we actually get there is will be 2am!!!!!!!! And I want to enjoy my night with my DH! But I wouldn't mind if some people came back to our room or another persons roomf or a little bit...but is it silly to have the bar left open for our wedding party after our wedding is so late anyway!!??

ooo and also...

do you think I am going to have a lot of guests say crap because our wedding starts so late??

I figured and even my mom said this- that people come home from work relax a little and hten go to late dinners on friday nights....so dont worry about people complaining about the cocktail hour starting so late!

And I thought that is a good point. And plus it gives people plenty of time to get dressed and ready after work for our wedding!!

I think it's fine to have your wedding at that time, but i'd personally think twice about the after party thing....but that's just me, some people (like your fh) would like that but don't you think you guys would probably be tired after the reception?

that's exactly how I feel. I am going to be tired and want to enjoy my night with FH- DH haha

And also after a long week of work and then wedding I am going to want that rest

After my friend's wedding- we just hung out at the bar for a while after chatting- she and her husband hung with us for a little while and then went to 'bed'

It really depends on the type of crowd you are having. Our reception doesn't end until 1am on a saturday night and I've already had a few people tell me that they are going to have to leave early. Based on this we're not even doing a full vienese hour because I'm afraid not enough people are going to stay for it.

I would seriously think about who is coming to your wedding and how many of them would stay until the party is over, regardless of what time it is. Unfortunately there aren't that many in my case.

omg i have the same problem. i was worried my party ended too late and everyone would leave early. but whatever, i got over that. if they want to stay, they stay. if not, they go. nothing i can do about it, its booked. FH also wants to have an after party and i just want to go back and relax. but then i thought about it, and maybe i might want to keep the party going too lol. i dont know, we havent decided yet. but the hotel we are staying at does offer an after party menu.....

that's exactly how I feel. I am going to be tired and want to enjoy my night with FH- DH haha

I feel the same way, lol! Tell FH you want to have a private party with just the two of you, he can't turn that down!

we like it that way because most people will have worked all day and won't want to make it a long night.

i do not think we should worry about an after party because even though it ends at 12:30 i feel that it's late enough. i'd like to spend the night with my then husband.

if other people want to go out afterwards... they are more than welcome to but we're hosting a huge party so i dont think we need to be the ones to organize the 'after party'

Catie- I posted the same scenario when I booked...LOL.....Many people are ok with the CH starting late b/c they are going from work to the RH.....

I think that is a very typical time for a Friday night wedding.

Mine is on a Sat and cocktail hour starts at 8 pm - so not much earlier.

My parents already complained, but I don't care, they need to get out more!

Its up to you about the afterparty - for me, I think I will want time alone with my FH....you could set something up in one of the rooms - like if a bridesmaid or groomsman is getting a room, you can put them in charge.

Catie - dont stress.

I agree with your mom. Fridays can be a difficult day for people, working and trying to get out on time. Having a later reception will helpo them out, they wont have to rush as much. And unfortunetly most people dont go to the church, usually immediate family and some friends. those people will just want to take the day off.

I think late weddings are awesome! after 12 at mine we are doing an afterhours type club theme! you can do so much with that!

Friday late is perfect. I think people wuold complain if it was earlier actually b/c of work and all, or if it was late on a Sun. FHs cousin was married on a Sat and she's jewish so they had to wait until after 7 (i forget what time), but the cocktail hour was at 8:30 and was fine. You relly can't worry about what everyone thinks anyway. As for the after party- go for it if you want, but you are going to be SOOO tired after that day- you may just want to crash. ARe you leaving for your HM the next day?
