I know I'm not a regular poster but I don't really know who else to ask about this. I'm worried about a friend of mine who just moved out here to the city and has been running with a wilder crowd which includes doing drugs (mainly coke, E, etc). Not all the time, but maybe once every weekend.
She claims that it's not a big deal and that everyone dabbles in drugs, especially in NYC, and that she's not an addict since its just recreational. I'm not really asking for whether you agree with me or her, but I've never done anything but alcohol so I'm just curious how much truth there is to that. Am I just really sheltered?
Have you done coke/E etc?

I smoked pot a handful of times throughout high school and college, never did anything more than that. . .but I think, IMO, someone doing these drugs at ALL is a problem and an issue. She's lucky to have a friend like you that cares enough to confront her!

it is very serious...some of these people who do drugs every weekend do more than enough for the whole week. I mean some are popping 7 pills of E and more, i know ppl who would do 15 hits of E in a weekend and its insane. Sadly i know somebody who did so much E in one weekend and is now paralyzed .
To the OP: i dont know how much she does every weekend but im going to guess if she does coke probably a decent amount of that while shes at a club. I didnt know this until 2 years ago lol but coke doesnt last long, i think 15 mins or so, and then after you need more. If someones out at a club for hours theyre probably doing it continuously
If they are doing coke for the evening, they are Defininitely doing it at LEAST every 20 Minutes. Otherwise there is a major crash.... I]There is no such thing as only doing a little bit of coke! It is 99% Impossible for the body.[ Also, recreational would be once every 3 months or more...anything more than that would be regularly. I started by doing it only on the weekends. I now avoid any situations where it may be in my surroundings...It's a very different type of drug (also E) - It almost becomes a sort of friend.

i know people who 'just did it on the weekend' and died.....its a really scary thing....ive also known a few true addicts and its disgusting the things that they will do for drugs - sell themselves, their kids, their belongings - i dont know how people can end up like that, it makes me i used to hang out with a lot of bad people when i was younger - and one day my best friend and i went to go meet up with this kid i hooked up with and it turns out he was a coke dealer - well we're hanging out with him and he asks us to pull over, he calls his 'friend' and his friend comes to pick up coke - with his 5 year old son in the car....i was so disgusted by both of them - i never hung out with him again after that - then 2 years later i read in the newspaper he OD and died....

I've never tried any drug or cigarettes... only alcohol. I'm too scared of what might be in them and where they are from and i dont want to risk liking it.
i know a few people who have done coke or E on rare occasions, and a lot of people who smoke pot, but my circle of friends doesn't really do hard drugs.

I totally agree with the way you are feeling - you are not wrong.
FH's brother and I are the same age and were in the same grade in middle school and high school (FH is older than me). When we were younger, both of us were into smoking pot for a time. For me, it was short lived and I never moved on to any other drugs. However, FH's brother went on to everything - coke, E, heroin, etc. Until finally, about 6 months ago I got a phone call from a girl that went to HS w/me and my FBIL, and she was letting me know that my FBIL has a severe oxycodone addiction requiring medical intervention and that she felt if she didn't inform the family his life would be at risk. FBIL is now in outpatient rehab and has been for 6 months.
Long story short - some people can handle the ''just partying' but for the vast majority of others, it is a slippery slope and you end up needing serious help only at the point where it is too late.
You're a good friend, don't second guess yourself.

been there done that...for me...it got old quick. I spent my youth going to raves or hanging out at a friends house doing exctacy and did coke for about a month. I tried ketamine, acid, shroomz, i even smoked something I still to this day don't know what it was because it got me so messed up. now I don't even smoke weed and I barely have a drink when I go out. It's a tough position to be in because honestly...my parents warned me sooooo much about drugs...my father warned me about how he had tried them all and it got him nowehere but in trouble...but I'm the kinda person that has to fall by myself before I can learn a lesson. I needed to be able to say 'been there, done that' it was just my personality to want to experience everything.deff tell this person your concerns...but don't nag them...that won't help at all.

I was that 'weekender' chick at the clubs way back when... pretty much every weekend straight for about a year and then i fell off.... thank god... it def takes control over your life... esp when you wake up the next morn and the only thing u can think abotu is going out again the next weekend... it becomes that intense... FM me if you want more info/advice...
I dunno how addicitve of a person this gurl can be or what 'crowd' shes with... some people will turn out just fine b/c they will find there own way through it, other.... not so much
