My FH may be changing jobs. He works at Bear in the city -- but may have to move to the offices in NJ (long story).
We were already thinking about moving off LI -- but not until AFTER our wedding. And not necessarily to NJ..... But - a job is a job especially now-a-days. He says he is willing to commute to NJ for like 3-6 months, but not much longer than that. Before he talks himself into just looking for a new job -- I'd like to know if we are turning our backs on something that could work in our favor.
Does anyone know anything about the towns around Whippany, NJ?? Is the housing affordable? Where are the good schools and neighborhoods?
Thanks for any help!

Re: A question about Jersey...??
Well, I don't know too much about Whippany, but I think it is in Morris County. I grew up in Princeton, which is probably within commute-distance. I LOVED Princeton--it is an amazing town, and I would move back there in a second. The schools were the top 5 in NJ. That said, the houses are not really any cheaper than on LI, though the taxes may be a bit less. Good luck! I want to move back to NJ.

I know exactly where Bear is in Whippany, my DH lived RIGHT by there before we got married- that part of jersey is very nice, although not any more affordable in terms of home prices than LI- although you can get decent priced townhomes there. The school district is good and I think the standard of living is WAY better that LI.

Re: A question about Jersey...??
I live in Morris County - Denville - I like it better out here, but I'm also not a native LIer. FH can't wait to move back to LI one day, but I prefer to stay in NJ.
I do feel that I have a better quality of life in NJ - the traffic is better and the car access to NYC is better. The train system is slower in my opinion.
There just seems to be more space out here to me. But the housing costs are similar.
No sales tax on clothes!!

I am a Jersey transplant as well, but I am further south that Whippany. We are in Dunellen (central NJ). I agree, better quality of life, less crowded and more reasonable house prices.

Re: A question about Jersey...??
We moved to NJ in the end of april when my DH left his job at bear, but he was working in nyc at the time. I wonder if they know each other? I think he was working in global clearing, not sure though . I don't know about the whippany area, but we are so happy we moved to nj. we had been considering moving off LI before he got the job here and DH was going to commute to the city, but then he took a job here in nj so it worked our perfectly. where are you working? do you need to commute to nyc or are you going to look for new work? we live in plainsboro, which is right outside of princeton. you can take the train into the city in about an hour. my dh has a few friends who were working in bear's whippany office (at least part of the time) that live in nj-one in marlboro (very nice, but $-that's where i work now) and another in i think bridgewater. in a lot of areas the homes are not really much less expensive than on LI, but the good thing is that there are more housing options-there are tons of townhouses and condos that are really nice and are affordable. we are closing on a townhouse next week. we never could have gotten a townhouse on LI for the price we are paying here.
