A question about .jpg v .bmp v .gif files...

I do a lot of things in Microsoft Paint and am in the process of learning how to use Photoshop, but I have noticed when I save images as a .jpg file they end up grainy. If I save as a .bmp they look fine. However, many websites (like LIW) require .jpg format.

How can I avoid this? Is there something else I should be doing? Is it something wrong with my settings?

Did you try saving in a higher resolution?

any printable files should be at 300 dpi and CMYK color. All those files should be saved as TIFF or high quality Jpg's.
