A question about tradition and $$

So my FH and I are paying for the wedding ourselves....but my parents do wanna help in some way. SO we already agreed that my mom would pay for my dress....and my parents paid for the E Party.....but my question is, what does the grooms parents pay for? I have no idea what a rehersal dinner is....but do they pay for that?

Yes traditionally the grooms parents does pay for the rehearsal dinner

I am going to be honest and say that I think tradition has gone out the window when it comes to weddings and $$$. Families are different these days.. I say sit down with your FH and figure out what you can do, and then see where you need the help.

Usually the FH parents pay for the rehearsal dinner when the Brides parents are paying for the wedding.

The rehearsal dinner is when the Bridal Party, parents of Bride/Groom, and readers (basically anyone who is involved in the ceremony) all get together to do some dry runs of the ceremony - they practice walking down the aisle, they rehearse their readings, you guys make sure you have the lineup right, etc. Then the Bridal party is treated to dinner afterward, as a thank you for everyone coming out. Typically, this is also when the Bride and Groom hand out the gifts to the Bridal party.

HTH!!

Traditionally the bride's family pays for the wedding, and the groom's parents pay for the rehearsal dinner

Most of my friends now split it 1/3, 1/3, 1/3- the couple, bride's parents, groom's parents

In my case, my parents gave us a heck of a lot more than FH's parents did......but everyone just wrote a check so we had most of the control over how we planned things

Thanks guys! I'm having my ceremony at my hall....i wonder if they will let us do a 'rehersal' there the night before....i should ask. If not, i guess we can all discuss it without actually 'walking' down the ailse or anything.

I have plenty of time to figure that out lol

IMO< tradition nowadays is what you make of it. Not everyone can financially follow what is traditionally their responsibilty.

I wish the tradition still existed! My parents dont have the money to pay for my wedding! It would've been nice though
