FH and I are going to the wedding of a very good friend of ours this weekend - it's a traditional Indian wedding with three separate parties: a party Saturday night (Garba), the ceremony Sunday morning followed by a lunch, and then the reception Sunday night.
I figure I'm going to bring three dresses of varying degrees of fancy-ness and be fine, but FH is worried about what is appropriate to wear to each thing. The majority of her family and Indian friends will be in Indian clothes the whole time, but I'm not sure what kind of Western clothes would be right. Ordinarily I'd call her up and ask her but she's probably surrounded by family and I don't want to interrupt. Anyone who has any advice - FH and I would appreciate it!
TIA!!!

Re: A question for any Indian brides out there
my FH attended his close friend's wedding (two separate friends, both indian) and he wore your traditional suit and tie. I just asked him about the women, and he said they also wore your typical outfit that you'd wear to a traditional american wedding - dresses, heels, etc.....! You are so lucky! I want to go to an indian wedding. they are absolutely beautiful looking. I've only seen pics of one, but it's bound to be very colorful and so much fun. both friends had over 600 ppl!!!

If everyone is going to be wearing indian wear and you've never really worn it before then you should. There outfits are beautifu land extravangant. The guy can always get away with traditional suit and tie. The indian wear isnt that expensive either and u can find something beautiful.

FH is Indian and I have always worn whatever I would feel comfortable in at a regular wedding/affair/occasion and never felt uncomfortable.

Re: A question for any Indian brides out there
for the garba, i really think you should wear an indian outfit, in my opinion i think it would look a little weird if you showed up in any other outfit only because it's a traditional dance and everyone wears indian outfits (unless u know a bunch of girls who won't be wearing them, then at least you wouldn't be the only one) for the other stuff, i think you can go with a non-indian outfit. i've been to weddings where even family members show up in nice dresses (plus, it's ok to wear it white ) but, if you have access to indian outfits, wear them!! they're SO much fun to have on!

Re: A question for any Indian brides out there
my BFF is Indian and I went to her sister's wedding. To the reception I wore a regular floor length dress that I'd wear to any wedding. I did not attend Garba or the ceremony, b/c only close family were invited. But, I do have pics of those events that I'll post for you so you can see. Also, if u want to get trad'l Indian clothes, they're actually VERY affordable - you should check out the places on Route 107 in Hicksville, right around Delco Plaza. I'll post the pics below...
ETA: My BFF says for Garba you really should wear something Indian
