A Small Dead Thing

This is disgusting. There is no getting around that fact. It's disgusting and revolting and any other word that makes the bile in your stomach churn. FH and I are doing work on his apartment so that I can move in (yay!). During the course of said remodeling, we began to notice an *ahem* odor. Is it the dog? Does he need a bath? Nope, the dog smells fine, well, he smells like dog, but he's supposed to. Is it the the garbage? No, the garbage is surpisingly non-offensive. We have no idea what it is.

Last night the smell went up a notch on the olfactory 'Scale of Noisomeness'... it's officially a stench. I come in to FHs place last night and see him and his brother walking from the living room to the kitchen sniffing determinedly. They believe a mouse has gone to its great reward possibly somewhere in the walls.
'You mean there's a small dead thing in this apartment!!' I shrieked. Affirmative. And we have to find it STAT!

Guess what my job is tonight while FH sheetrocks?

Re: A Small Dead Thing

That's gross!!! We had that in my apartment when I lived in the city with my best friend but the worst part was we had to listen to it die! It was either a pigeon or a rat that was caught in the living room wall and he would scratch on the wall incessantly. One day it just... stopped

Luckily it was right at the end of our lease so we moved out before the smell got really bad.

Good luck tonight

eogara...I definitely just threw up a little in my mouth!

It might be easier to just break off the engagement than do this!

That's an idea. You can always reinstate it after he finds it.

No no -- don't let the mousie win .

Though I'm not quite sure how i would handle this, it will not be easy but think of the positives.. that you will soon be living with Fh and all will be happy in the world

Sorry, I know you must feel but once the situation is resolve you will feel

Re: A Small Dead Thing

yuck.. mice are gross.

i had like 3 mice living in my apartment this past spring and i would hear them in my kitchen cabinet and freak out. one day, the landlord set up traps and within like 10 minutes the traps went off. i freaked out cause i didn't wanna touch a dead mouse.. and neither would FH! to make matters worse, the landlords 10 year old daughter came downstairs to get rid of it for me!

I'm perfectly fine with that.. but i'll never let FH live that one down

Re: A Small Dead Thing

I have to go in SEARCH of this mouse corpse! I have to actively seek it out! This is like the worst easter egg hunt EVER!

And once I find it, besides screaming a lot, I have no idea what to do, because I'm certainly not touching it!

I'd rather sheetrock instead. Give him the 'dirty job'.

I wish I could! But it's too heavy for me to do alone and his reasoning is 'Well, if we have to go in the walls, your hands are smaller.' And apparently more deft at scooping up the dead!

Blech!!!

Re: A Small Dead Thing

Can the dog help? You know, is he/she sniffing about in certain places more than others?

I think you should call in an exterminator...your landlord should pick up the cost.

The dog! That's hilarious! This dog is very, very sweet and also very, very stupid. One day he snatched a LIME off the counter thinking it was a tennis ball. I'm surprised the dog can find his way to the waterdish!

Re: A Small Dead Thing

He's gutting the bathroom and tearing down a wall in the kitchen. And really, it wasn't even up to male standards of existence!
