A wonderful surprise

Hi ladies..I have been lurking on this board for about a week now.. still kinda nervous to post because it is soo early in my pregnancy. I was planning a wedding for November of this year when I found out on Monday that I was pregnant. It was a HUGE surprise, but we are soooo very excited.

We just moved the wedding up to March, so now I have 62 days to plan the wedding of my dreams.. I am a little behind the gun, but not really stressing at all. I have majority of the vendors, and I am getting the invites out in ten days. We want to be married before the baby arrives, just crossing my fingers all goes well, like I said, I know it is very early on.

Question though.. I have not seen the doctor yet (go for first visit Wed)..but the nurse said my hormone levels are excellent for how far along I am.(I went for blood work on Wed) Oh.. I am six weeks and my level is at 17,500 ?? I was so excited I forgot to ask what that means.. can you ladies help on that one???

The hormone, hCG occurs during pregnancy. It is made by cells that form the placenta, which nourishes the egg after it has been fertilized and becomes attached to the uterine wall. hCG can first be detected in a blood test and then shortly after in a urine test. hCG is one of the first hormones made during pregnancy, hence being called the 'announcer of pregnancy'.

What are normal hCG levels during pregnancy?
Levels:

0-1 week: 0 - 50 IU/L
1-2 weeks: 40 - 300
3-4 weeks: 500 - 6,000
1-2 months: 5,000 - 200,000
2-3 months: 10,000 - 100,000
2nd trimester: 3,000 - 50,000
3rd trimester: 1,000 - 50,000
Non-pregnant females: <5.0
Postmenopausal: <9.5

There is great variation in hCG levels. It isn't the absolute value that matters in these results, but the change in values. In a normal pregnancy, the level of this hormone approximately doubles about every two days during the first 10 weeks.
