AAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

AAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

My Mom is driving me CRAZY!!!! You see my FH and I have been renting apartments for the past 2 years, and haven't been able to save much money. So my parents sat us down and invited us to make an apartment in their basement 'rent free' so we could save money TO BUY A HOUSE. And that is what my mom is stuck on....us saving to buy a house. She keeps telling me that there is no need for a big elaborate wedding, and that they are only letting us stay there to save for a house not our wedding. You see, my dad is really sick, and can't work so they are just barely surviving to stay on the Island. They are planning on putting the house on the market in the Spring of 08, and moving to PA. I don't want to stay on the Island either, and we will prob relocate to PA with them. Only problem is, we are getting married April 08. Saving for a house, and a wedding at the same time is hard. I am already REALLY skimping on A LOT of things. I am working on a budget of $7,000 for the whole wedding. My mom thinks that it's stupid. I just don't know how to make her see how important this is to me. I'm not even having it at a regular catering hall, I'm renting out like a small club hoiuse type thing. I just want to be able to spend my wedding day with my family and friends. If they have to eat heros and ziti than they will. I just don't know what to do!!! I know this was long, but HELP!

Could you work a second job? I mean I am a ft store manager with a second job to have some extra money. I would take them up on the offer and let them know how your savings are going (with out telling them all your expenses). If you are planning a small wedding and you and your FH are willing to work at it do it! Just remember mom's rent free place comes with boundaries on what you can spend.

Well, we did move in with them. We have already saved a bit. Well, a lot more than we would have. I would love to get a second job, but I work a lot as it is. I work from 8am-about 7pm every night. SO it would be hard to find another job. I tried to sell Mary Kay, but I'm just not the type to push people to buy stuff. I just can't really think of anything else that I could do.

Oh yeah...we are both on save alert...we're killing all of our friends because we never go out or do anything anymore. Our future is just such high priority right now.
Get this! Last friday I had a day off of work, and my parents were going into the cuty with my brother. They really wanted us to go so we could have a nice family day, but I told them no because we were all paying out own way, and that we needed to save money. She got mad at us!!!! Do you believe that!!!! I just don't know what to do!

man this stinks. i feel for you. Parents are sometimes there for you in the hardest of times but in the same breathe they take advantage of you. I am sorry your in this position.

Yeah, my parents are usually really supportive. I just don't understand why they have to make this so hard. I feel I have a great plan on saving for both, and hope I can try to show them that even though a house is priority, our wedding means a lot to us too.

Re: AAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

Hopefully you'll get some $$$ from your eparty. that should help....you also don't need to save for a house. As long as you have decent credit, you don't even need a down payment. there are plenty of banks that will give you an 80/20 morgage. I'm sure when the time is right it will happen.

What about renting part of your parents house in PA until you guys get settled???

Trust me I've thought about it, but they are buying one of those little houses in a 50 and over community type thing.

I know that I can get a 'piggyback' mortgage, but we have to at least have 10,000-15,000 for closing costs.

Re: AAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

GRRRRR now my mom thinks that we shouldn't have an eparty! She says it's a waste of money! I want to have a little no biggie thing in the back yard! I know that 'gifts aren't to be expected' at an eparty, but they usually are given, and most importanly money is also given. I don't want to sound selfish, but besides the eparty being a reat chance for our families to meet, I think that we will make money off the eparty to help us save! I hate to sound materialistic, but I just think it makes sense! ARGH!

first off .. welcome caligirl...

second.. i too am not haveing an eparty for the same reason as you... or what your mom said.. 'its a waste of time and money' since we are NOT having one we are gettign random $ gifts in teh mail.. plesent suprise... but save ALL you can... save ur coins.. how cheap as that sounds.. its paying off for me nad FH right now.... tell u, you dont realize that changes does turn in to 20$ and 50$

but save and if you cant go out have little picnics at home with FH lock the door if possible and relax.. try to forget aboutthe rents upstairs.. it will be difficult but it can all work out in the end...

we are all here for you <3

Yes they are, we're in the process of looking for a house and it's scary how many hidden costs there are.
