AARRGH! FH's bad luck

AARRGH! FH's bad luck

I'm sorry girls, I just really needed to vent. Last month, a few weeks before we got engaged, FH was driving my car on the Belt Parkway when he was rear-ended and slammed into another car. Thank God he was okay, just a little bruised, but my car was totaled. I bought a new car a few weeks later and tried to put on a brave face about it - 'I know it wasn't your fault; I wanted a new car anyway, no big deal, blah blah blah.' But, I was still laying out $6000 out-of-pocket for the down payment (plus the amt. the insurance company payed me), plus now I have new car payments for the next 3 years. And I couldn't ask him for financial help because the accident wasn't his fault and he's a student and has no money, while I do.

Fine, I was over that when just last night we were eating dinner, and he reached across the table and knocked into a water glass, sending it flying two feet and spilling all over my laptop computer. Five minutes later, the computer was dead. He felt terrible , and again, it was just an accident and I couldn't be too mad, but... he's now just completely wrecked the two most expensive things I own, in only 7 weeks! I know that money isn't the most important thing in life, but here we are, trying to plan a wedding, and because of his bad luck we're starting with, what, $21,000 less than we would have had?

Thanks for hearing me out, girls, I really needed to vent and I just can't complain to him because he already feels like the biggest loser after all this, and I don't want to make him feel worse.

I'm so sorry to hear about his bad luck, and it's ok to vent; this is very frustrating!!!

I'm glad that you recognize that these are only material things and that your FH didn't do anything intentionally, it's ok to be upset just try to focus on what's really important.

I hope his luck starts to change real soon!!

Don't worry... accidents happen. I am sure everything will work out.

AWWW! I'm glad you're a very understanding person! Just think of it this way... You have a million 'Get out of jail free cards' coming your way for the low, low cost of $21,000!

I'm sorry... you're going through this! It's, um... 'just' money? (easy to say, right?).

Good luck! (and even MORE luck to your FH!!)

so sorry to hear all of that :(

I had a laptop that i spilled iced-tea on, (twice!) and it STILL worked! GIve it about 4 days to dry out & take a shot.. you never know! Mine started buzzing when the liquid hit, but i think as long as it doesn't smoke, your ok ;)

Mine worked for another 3 years after that, and the only downfall was that it had to be plugged in. That stinks for a laptop, but at least i didn't have to get a new one right away!

Good luck!

Oh no! I just realized - I'm a teacher, and had 2 years' worth of lessons in that computer - worksheets, tests, vocabulary reviews...

FH is going to the Apple Store in Roosevelt Field tonight to see if they can salvage the hard drive's info. Fingers crossed!

Hmm... mine didn't buzz or smoke. Just... stopped. Maybe that's a good sign?

I think there was an electrical short (the end of the plug doesn't 'glow' anymore when you plug it in), and am hoping that that can be fixed without ruining my hard drive. I don't know! He has an appointment at the 'Genius Bar' in the Apple store at 5 pm - I'll know then. I'm so nervous! I seriously have all the tests and worksheets I've written in 2 years in there. And I'm a total slob, and have no idea where to find the hard copies around the house, so would be starting from scratch on those.

I know it's not his fault-but that stinks! You gets lots of hugs for being so understanding.

Sorry about his run of bad luck!

Atleast he is trying to make it better by taken the lap top to get it repaired.. That's nice! I bet he feels horrible!

Yeah, flip the lap top over while it's open and let it kind of air out in like an upside down 'V' if you will.

That is all so very annoying. You are a good woman, my friend. Patience is one virtue you definitely have.
