Michi! Are you sure you're not me?
I had this happen about 3 months ago - turns out that there are 2 types of cells they test for when doing a pap - if they don't gather enough of the second type (they're 'hidden' and harder to get), the test results come back abnormal.
I went back, they do another pap, a little more involved tho (FM if you want details) ---- and everything was fine. \

Re: abnormal pap smear TMI:(
I had the same thing happen to me, but in my case after the culposcopy, the had to cut a piece of my cervix where the cells were. Everything is okay now, and I am expecting a baby. The only problem now is that my cervix is shorter than most. I also have to go for pap tests every 6 months instead of every year. Each time I call for the results, my heart is in my throat waiting for the answer. Good Luck!!

Re: abnormal pap smear TMI:(
Could that 'C' word be candida?? (Or chlamydia ack: just kidding)
In that case you have a yeast infection! My sister gets this all the time on her paps, she doesnt show any symptoms of a yeast infection, but it almost always shows up on her pap. No biggie, they will give you a Diflucan and put you on your way.
Keep up updated!:

I have had this twice (the colposcoy). It's not fun, but fairly common. The abnormal cells may also be caused by a certain kind of virus, that occurs occasionally then just goes away - called...Human Papillomavirus. You can do some research on this at www.healthandhpv.com
It's pretty common so I wouldn't worrk Michi. Good luck!!

It'll be okay ladies - I had this about five years ago. They did a biopsy and it was precancerous cells. Scary but not life threatening. They froze the cells off and everything is fine. I'm thinking this is pretty common nowadays.
Good luck to both of my girls that everything will be okay

Re: abnormal pap smear TMI:(
I have had four colposcopy's and they are nothing at all to be worried about. I had cervical Cancer when I was 25...
The colposcopy results are usually biopsied to see how deep / bad the cells are. Abnormal cells are found in 1 in 9 woman..that means its VERY VERY common.
I know 6 of my closest friends have had abnormal paps at one time or another and had a biopsy. No-one elses progressed into anything worse then abnormal cells and those sometimes clear them selves up. I had 6 abnormal paps before they started a new treatment.
Abnormal cervical cells are VERY treatable, and often results in no major damage at all.
My cancer was successfully removed and I was advised it caused no future pregnancy damage and truthfully was not more then a long ordeal due to lots of Dr's visits, tests etc, but I trusted my Dr. when he said it was controlable, and I've had no problems since.
I hate seeing people scared over this, talk to your DR, and believe them when they say its treatable no matter what the extent...
The colposcopy's are done in the dr's office, last from 5-20 minutes and hurt a tiny bit more then a normal pap..which trust me is not bad at all.
I'll tell ya the truth so you know what to expect. you feel a lot of pressure and its uncomfortable...They do put iodine on after to stop the bleeding ( which is nothing, very very small amount) and that burns a little for a while afterwards.
I had cramping for the rest of the day after each one...like a bad period.
Dont be scared..its uncomfortable but not scary at all, I swear.

You will be fine, my mom had that and they froze the cells and has had no problem since. You may not even have that, it will probably be nothing.
On another note, I have to go back for another mammo today because the results were inconclusive..what the heck does that mean???!!!!
