? about doctor

I have been trying to get an appt for over a month with my doctor so today FINALLY i said that i would see the physician assistant.

Do you know if PAs can write prescriptions?

Thanks!

Yes they can. I prefer to see the PA sometimes over the doc!

ok so then why do they make it such a big deal about seeing the doc?! i would have seen her MONTHS ago - they were like 'we are so sorry but would you mind terribly going to see the PA?' so i thought there was some type of difference!

thanks for responding!

I think its that they can write the prescription but it needs to be 'approved' by the main dr.

My grn office has a PA, its sooooo much easier to get an appointment and you don't usually end up waiting as long.

I think the only difference is that a PA cannot perform sugery... I could be wrong... PAs have a reputation for being more 'hands on' with the patients... better bedside manner.

A lot of people don't like seeing the PA, they feel that they are either not as qualified (technically, they aren't, since they aren't drs) or that they aren't getting 'their money's worth' since you're paying the same amount, I think, whether you see a PA or a dr.. I saw one at my dr's office for a while and she was great.

Alot of people don't like the idea of seeing a PA. They would prefer an MD

Hi!

If the PA is good then you will have a great experience. They tend to be a bit more tolerabe and patient. While PA's write prescriptions they are writing them under the doctors name. They cannot independently write prescriptions out. Nurse practitioners can write out prescriptions under their own license. I love using NP's

You will not have any issues getting your scripts

Yes, they prescribe meds, and generally patients like PAs because they will pay more attention to the little things that docs are too busy to stop for--like asking if you had your flu shot, giving you something for that rash you happened to have, not blowing you off because you have been feeling more depressed lately......

Some offices even have NPs and in most states they can write prescriptions too.
