About negotiating...

About negotiating...

You know how we all say just to ask because the worst they can say is NO?

Well, I know I'd feel soooooo stupid if they said No! Whenever I attempted to negotiate a vendor I did it in the most roundabout way I never flatout tried to lower the price. And if they said they wouldn't negotiate I'd feel bad for asking!

Anyone else feel this way?

Hahah I feel like that too a lot, but I've been trying to just suc* it up and deal with it

We'll see how far that gets me!

And FH is like so NOT a negotiator, so I have to do it ALL

Yeah I kind of ask in a round about way too. . . .
But, with photography I said that I want this, this and this and that worked!
And for the room block I said you have to be at this price per room with tax and they made that happen too

Being direct works too!

Lol! Well, it's a business relationship, don't feel bad. It's a bad economy...they need business and you need to save money. I was able to negotiate with every vendor so far. I did my homework, got a bunch of quotes for everything, so I was able to say it in a nice way that 'I want to hire you...but...I have been quoted XX', they usually match the quote in that case. I don't feel bad asking because I know they need business and I could end up saving money!

Then again, wedding planning has become a money saving game to me...I have a little too much fun with negotiating

although recently, i was like well i really want this and this but these prices just are not working for me and they did make magic happen!! which im happy about but then i get angry that i didnt do it sooner lol...

i have to go back to the florist for some things and i plan on making it work then! lol

Ugh I can not negotiate!

As long as I don't feel like I am being taken advantage of I don't ask. I wouldn't ask for a lower price just because. And if I felt like the vendor was ripping me off I'd probably go some place else

Re: About negotiating...

Negotiating is not my thing. I totally wish they would just say a reasonable price and that was it. Negotiating is annoying to me... just more work!

Fortunately, it works though!!

Don't feel dumb or silly. It is your money! We all want to keep as much of it as possible!

Re: About negotiating...

I was very nervous about negotiating at first...I have saved with each vendor we have booked bc I negotiated. I also realized they will pretty much not say no if they know your going to walk out the door. I also do not try to negotiate until I know I want to sign with the vendor (but the vendor doesnt)

So far this is what I have saved....

At the RH our BM ended up laughing at me b/c I was negotiating so much but, it worked he came down in price...total Saving = 10pp (would have been 15pp if we moved our date to a Sunday)

Video we saved $50 and got some stuff thrown in for free....an extra DVD, double the amount of chapters, extra editing

Photography we got them to come down a few hundred in price and thrown in a 20x20 print.

I have known my DJ for like ten years and his sister is in my BP so that doesnt count lol.

Re: About negotiating...

Dont feel bad- they probably get it all the day. You can always just flat out ask 'Is this price negogitable?' Be honest and let them know you're looking at other places/prices.

Re: About negotiating...

ha usually my line is 'so is this the bottom line price?' its my way of saying 'so ur not going to throw anything in for us/is this price negotiable?' it usually gets the vendors to start talking! FH works in sales so he's usually pretty good but i usually take the lead cause i have no patience!

sometimes, i think it depends on the type of person i'm dealing with.

Yeaaaaaa, I really don't negotiate. FH's dad has no problem doing it so it's great to bring him a long. My sister is very direct also. Don't know why I can't do it - I feel weird . . .

I'm no good at it either- i'm veeerrrrrryyyyyy passive...But FH doesn't have a prob with it, so I let him handle all that stuff...

I must have saved thousands by negotiating, or at least by my mom negotiating for me. what she usually does is lets the vendor know that we still have other appointments at other places. She usually says, Our budget is X (even if its lower than my budget), we don't want to spend more than that. She also will say, we got this price at this place, so can you beat that? Or, she will try to get them to throw something else in. You should be specific when asking what you want, for example, with my photog I asked specifically for 20 extra images in my album.

I am soooo bad and FH is even worse!!

I have done it at every vendor, but it makes me feel soooo uncomfortable!!! For some reason, I feel bad when they lower the price. That is my Catholic guilty conscience!!!

I am so glad all our vendors are booked and I won't have to do that again for awhile!!

Re: About negotiating...

FH is really good about it but I must say I did really well when we were looking at RH's......I didn't even give him a chance to negotiate because I started with.....'ok so how much $$ can we take off' or 'ok so what are you going to throw in as extras for us'. I honestly think that let's say a photographer wants $2500, they tell you $3,000 anyway so they can 'seem' like they are giving you a deal by taking $500 off, when in reality, its the price they were going to charge anyway.

You have nothing to loose and why not put some extra $ in your pocket!!!!!!!

i get real uncomfortable trying to negotiate prices, but then i think if it saves us money it's worth it!! watever price they give me, i usually tell them that i like their work and i'd also like to work with them on our wedding day but the price just isn't in our budget.... they usually lower the price or throw things in!! its soooo worth it grls!!
