I'm getting married in a church. I'm one of those nerds who has always dreamed about walking down the aisle in my church.

We were both raised catholic, having completed all the sacraments but neither of us are religious. But, I have always dreamed about walking toward my fh down the aisle in church.
i think it's crazy that the church has to accept you, the 'donation', you have to belong to the parish, and testing.
so, i think it all depends on my experience with the church when we start to make arrangements.
WHOA what donation??? I'm not catholic so I did not know about an donation.
I'm Pentecostal/Baptist...we do not have tests...we have classes and counseling classes to help us with the transition..
you're part of the parish if you are registered with them, meaning you send donations. and when you want to get married, some churches have a donation amount that needs to be paid. crazy!
yeah and at the church in my neighborhodd just to baptize my daughter was suchhhhhh a hassle....the priest gave me and FH a lecture everytime we went there about not being married and then on top of that we needed to attend boring classes to baptise her, so i can only imagine what a pre-wedding process will be like there

Re: Actual Ceremony
RH I liked the idea that everyone is actually there to see you get married when you have it in a church many people dont come to the church. Also I like that when the ceremony is over you just go into a different room for the CH

I'm getting married at a church even though I am not religious, neither is FH. But its just very sentimental because my mom and her siblings were all married there, and I was baptized and confirmed there. I just feel its nice to carry on the family tradition.

We're getting married at the RH because I want to get married outside and its cost effective because I dont have to get a limo for hours.
Yes, I am very excited about the no limo thing too, but of course our friends are like...well you're gonna get a party bus for after right!?!? seriously, yes, thats 1 more expense that i jus want to throw in there right?!? people are redic!!!
i'm going to have everything at the RH too but, we might have the ceremony seperatly at the church at a different time

Re: Actual Ceremony
We are getting married at RH.... I find that church weddings, although very nice and all, are super expensive. A friend of mine wanted to get married on the beach and when they asked their priest to do it at the beach he said the God would not recognize their marriage if they did not get married inside the church...this made me a bit mad because it seemed like the church just wanted the money...God is going to recognize it wherever you are...didn't He create everything anyway!!!

RH
FH was raised non-religious so he would have to go through everything if we wanted to get married in the church....not to mention their 'donation' of like $300

Yea... isnt the church hysterical!!!! They always have their hand out it seems... Exactly whyyyy I am soo dead set against gettin married in the church... The whole 'not being recognized if its not inside' bothers the crap outta me... not to mention the idea of pre-cana and the grilling of the couple that is done by the priest.... i believe in god and the whole 9 yards, but the church is 1 corrupt institution.... IMO at least!!!
