Mrs. John Smith (his first name)
or
Mrs. Jane Smith (her first name)
THANKS!

Re: Addressing a Widow?
A very close family friend passed away only 3 weeks ago and I had to hand in my guest list to the woman doing my invitations days after. I asked my Mom about this and b/c it was so sensitive b/c he had just passed away, she asked the woman and she wanted Mrs. John Smith. I hope this helps.
My grandma also goes by Mrs. John Smith and my grandpa passed away 11 years ago.

Re: Addressing a Widow?
OK...I did Mrs. John Smith (I had two like this)...the responses for both came back as Mrs. MaryAnn Smith...I hope I didn't offend...I kinda wish I did her name instead of his.

Ugh. I think I only have three like this so maybe I'll just ask them (they are all close relatives). Thanks ladies!

Re: Addressing a Widow?
It depends on how she likes to be addressed. For my grandmother I will be addressing Mrs. John Smith rather than using her name. She gets very upset if she is not addressed with my grandfather's name. HOWEVER, for the placecards it will read Mrs. hername Smith. I know that's weird, but she's weird! LOL! JK!

I'm not a big fan of being known by your husband's name when you get married. I gladly changed my last name, but I didn't change my first name!

Re: Addressing a Widow?
I guess it's an old fashioned thing for her.
If it were me, I'd lwant to be Mrs. Lauren so-and-so

It depends on who you are sending it to...I know from sending out invites to fundraisers that most older ladies like Mrs. John Smith.... I guess it's tradition.

Re: Addressing a Widow?
Just to make things easier on you...we used one of each!! I knew that one of our guests still goes by Mrs. His name. I asked another guest personally, and she preferred Mrs. Her name.
I'd just ask them. It's a sensitive and personal situation; I'd want to make sure my guest was not offended.
