ADDRESSING INVITATIONS (with poll)

Ok, again I'm sure this was posted before, but I coln't find the post, so - If an outer envelope is printed:

Mr. & Mrs. John Jones
555 Cross Road
New York, NY 12121

How would you write the inner envelope?

Mr. & Mrs. John Jones

or

John & Mary Jones

or something else?

Thanks

well, first of all you should write out New York (not NY) and you shouldn't use &....it should be 'and'

so I voted for 'other' it should be John and Mary Jones

I tried to make the inner envelopes more personal and only wrote first names on them...so I wrote John & Mary on the inner

Re: ADDRESSING INVITATIONS (with poll)

it should be Mr. and Mrs. Jones--no first names. OR if you want to be more casual, use ONLY the first names

the real answer? ANY WAY YOU WANT TO.

If you are trying to be formal, then it's Mr. John and Mrs. Mary Jones on the inside......
If you are trying to be normal, then John and Mary Jones

I've heard a good rule of thumb is to be formal on the outside and casual on the inside....use nicknames, relationship titles (aunt mary)....anything goes on the inside...the outside is where you have to sweat it. hth

I always HATE when I see Mr. and Mrs John Smith. Although I believe this is the 'formal' way to do it. It's like the woman is now the 'property' of the husband and cease to have her own identity.

So, I would address to either:

Mr and Mrs Smith
Or
John and Mary Smith

IMO

i voted for other

if the outer says Mr. and Mrs. John Jones
the inner should say
Mr. and Mrs. Jones

Re: ADDRESSING INVITATIONS (with poll)

i am doing mine a little more personalized and informal and just doing their first names because it is formal on the outside with their last names already

Either one is fine...I did some Mr. and Mrs..... and others with just the first names

Same as what's on the outer, Mr. & Mrs. John Jones

Same for us. We keep the inner more casual, but for those we really didn't know, or if we called them 'Mr. & Mrs.' in person (like ILs of siblings), we did 'Mr. & Mrs. Jones' on the inner envelope.

The outers were all 'Mr. and Mrs. John Jones'
