ADDRESSING INVITATIONS (with poll)

Original post by DanaMZ

Ok, again I'm sure this was posted before, but I coln't find the post, so - If an outer envelope is printed:

Mr. & Mrs. John Jones
555 Cross Road
New York, NY 12121

How would you write the inner envelope?

Mr. & Mrs. John Jones

or

John & Mary Jones

or something else?

Thanks

I tried to make the inner envelopes more personal and only wrote first names on them...so I wrote John & Mary on the inner

That's what I'm doing too.

I was told the outer gets:

Mr. and Mrs. John Jones
123 Sesame Street
Anywhere, New York 11111

Inner gets:

Mr. and Mrs. Jones

You have to spell out the state?

I always HATE when I see Mr. and Mrs John Smith. Although I believe this is the 'formal' way to do it. It's like the woman is now the 'property' of the husband and cease to have her own identity.

So, I would address to either:

Mr and Mrs Smith
Or
John and Mary Smith

IMO

seconded. Just because it's 'etiquette' or whatever doesn't negate the fact that it's sexist and outdated.

I'm not a crazy feminist or anything... I just think there are certain things that are archaic and should be left in the past.

So, I vote for the suggestions above!
