Addressing invites

Addressing invites

I'm sure this has been discussed a million times, but look what i found on frugalbride.com

***************************************************

THE INNER ENVELOPE

The inner unsealed envelope doesn't include the first names. It's considered a NONO to write 'and Family'. If you don't know and can't find out the names of the children, then go ahead and do what you have to. Everyone over 16 gets their own invitation. Roommates each get their own and so do your cousin and her boyfriend. It's considered rude to address an invitation to 'Miss Mary Brown and Guest'.

^^^^^^ How is that last line RUDE?!?! They mean we need to get everyone's names if they have a steady bf/gf?

Also, i thought the inner was supposed to be less formal, and have first names, or with whatever you call them?!

UGH I hate this part!

For an unmarried single woman, do we use Ms. or Miss ?? I'm getting so many different stories!

I wouldn't take seriously any advice published written this poorly:

Also, if no first names are allowed, but neithe ris 'family', but th ekids are under 16, what is it you are supposed to do?
Mr. and Mrs. XXX
Mr. XXX
Miss XXX
Miss XXX

Eek, I think that's ugly.

Re: Addressing invites

I am doing first names on my inner envelopes and if someone has a 'nickname' I am using that...i.e. Nanny and Poppy for my grandparents...

I think it is a nice, personal touch, Don't know if it is 100% right etiquette-wise...

Ms. for adults
Miss. for children (16 and under)

Etiquette, Shmettiquette,
I guess no one will really care right!?

Re: Addressing invites

When it came to envelope etiquette, I did not care at all.
I wrote the numbers of the street addresses instead of spelling them.

Like I wrote 4 John Street
instead of Four John Street

I just did not care!

for a family with kids, i am doing
Mr. and Mrs. XXX
Daughter and Son

i am listing the kids first names... not sure if it should be gender and oldest to youngest or just oldest to youngest or alpha order... i read somewhere that is the 'way' but i am sure everywhere has a different 'way'

ETA: as for the guest part.. if they have a steady GF or BF, I think it is just polite to address them to recognize their relationship but the outer would be addressed only to the main person you are inviting, unless the live together. I know i was offended, being with FH for 3 yrs and and deployments he gets an invite with and Guest! i was offended, it was a close family friend and i have met them too...

Totally agree. FH and I were engaged, and I received an invite addressed to me 'and guest'!

Re: Addressing invites

What if there is two people that live together, but not married

so i would put
mrs. jen smith and mr. james jones
on the outer

then on the inner:

Mrs. smith & Mr. jones?

Yes but on seperate lines... and not Mrs. since they are not married.. us Ms for the unmarried girl... if they were marreid and she kept her lastname then they would be on the same line as you have it.. unmarried goes on different lines.. i dunno, i just read that somewhere cause i am getting ready to do mine as well.
